Selling the City is the newest series to the popular Selling franchise on Netflix, taking viewers into the world of high-end New York City real estate. The show follows agents of Douglas Elliman led by Eleonora Srugo as they sell luxury properties while dealing with internal conflicts and intense situations.
The new series explores high-end real estate which is focused around luxury properties where some sales will be in the multiple millions and sometimes billions of dollars in the city of New York. It introduces a variety of different personalities with diverse backgrounds in real estate and their life experiences in this unique area.
Eleonora Srugo the founder of her own team, a notable personality in real estate and in the NYC community is a central figure of “Selling the City”. With her extensive knowledge and background in New York the show emphasizes both the challenges and highlights of working with clients at a very high level. She has her own unique approach which creates the pace for the entire show.
While Eleonora is one of the most notable personalities, the series features a wide array of different agents with backgrounds and varying skills sets. The agents showcase not just real estate but personalities and stories that give a new dynamic to traditional real estate based series.
From Abigail Godfrey with her passion for the architectural qualities to Steve Gold bringing his experiences with prior experience. The cast has strong characteristics and perspectives. Also including Gisselle Meneses Nunez with her passion, to Taylor Middleton's sales performance. Justin Tuinstra showing how hard you have to work to get to the top with newcomer Jade Chan all make an impactful group with different approaches and viewpoints.
The series focuses on more than real estate showing elements of luxury as well as a focus on personal ambition and rivalries which become some of the most important talking points in their story. The characters in this show create scenarios that blend real life with dramatic performances that have become a key to success in many reality series.
With property prices running so high each person on the team is showcasing both what is to be expected of someone in their position while being committed to winning large sales. This approach creates high stress moments throughout the series. The stakes get increased as not everyone always gets what they are working towards which creates internal rivalries.
Beyond real estate deals the series dives into real-life interpersonal issues between some cast members along with connections with other popular individuals outside the main team. With a focus on relationships that create some tension within their day to day schedules. This is another take on how these shows work well by blending real life drama with work challenges.
A situation was brought to light with Gisselle revealing her "situationship" from the past. Jordyn and Gisselle's conflict over this highlights tension around professional interactions with personal lives becoming too intertwined. Even thought she tried to be more discrete it came out that she and Jordyn shared a connection to Michael B. Jordan . This moment highlighted girl code as Jordyn admitted that she never spoke with her first about the interaction she had before getting a lead on selling to a client who also knew the same person.
“Selling the City” had Eleonora Srugo involved in the series' creation and it took about two and a half years to launch which is rare to find in shows that focus on selling and luxury real estate. She collaborated with the Netflix and production teams to ensure that it aligned with her vision while providing something new. There were also creative efforts that make this different from past series within the format that allowed this project to stand alone.
While a part of the project is for pure enjoyment for viewership, it was Eleonora’s goal to highlight her love for her home town New York and showcasing luxury real estate in the most positive light while also showcasing her ethics through out filming.
Although at the time this was written there was no word for a future second season it has become popular for streaming on Netflix in the top 10 of most watched on their platform. With strong support from viewship there is a potential for more to come.
Fans and those online have also showed their commitment to the program. Speculating and asking for information about a return. Also mentioning wanting to know if friendships will recover between characters is something that viewership appears to care about most. Speculating about how all interpersonal challenges may resolve between personalities and which characters viewers want to follow.
