Saturday Night Live (SNL), a well-known television sketch series has begun its 50th season . While fans wait patiently for the newest episodes there are different ways they can stay engaged.
Saturday Night Live is celebrating 50 years with special programming events along with documentaries that look at the program’s historical presence. This has provided viewers unique ways to connect with different aspects of the shows long running history.
The series is featuring an online event with skits that were chosen by those who work on the show showcasing different periods of content. Also through the online outlet NBC Insider, there will be a behind the scenes look with information relating to the skits shown. This will continue to engage the show's fans and bring them back to favorite skits over time.
Two new documentaries will become available on Peacock to tell stories from behind the camera and showcase all those who have brought musical components into the program. They seek to create a fully dimensional picture that highlights how Saturday Night Live has maintained itself through several years of the industry changes.
Peacock has a four part documentary which was created and produced by Morgan Neville that dives into what is like behind the scenes. It shows production, writers and cast member reflections through a compilation of many interviews. The hope was to create an understanding of the complex system and how its unique environment functions.
This project which is produced by Oscar winner Questlove along with Oz Rodriguez provides a look at the impact musical guest have had on the show. With stories of performances, musical components and how different music related events helped shaped SNL’s overall history.
While fans look forward to the anniversary events there are no new episodes until January 18 . However those who may wish to revisit can stream replayed episodes through NBC or Peacock. In the mean time the content provided through older episodes is something many viewers still want to tune in to and enjoy in order to engage with the programs past.
The January 11 show will showcase the popular SNL episode that featured John Mulaney. With an opening monologue about fatherhood with some other funny highlights during his performance. The musical guest Chappell Roan. The replay gives more opportunities for new comers to tune in to and enjoy these aspects as well.
This Season features both well known talent such as Michael Che, Kenan Thompson and Colin Jost. Additionally they feature all new additions to the cast including Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline along with all returning featured cast members as well. This year also showcased hosts like Ariana Grande, Chris Rock and Martin Short which bring new perspective with varying degrees of experience for each program.

There are high hopes the series will continue to stay relevant as time progresses.
