"The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" (RHOSLC) continues to deliver drama in its fifth season . The relationships, trust and betrayal were showcased among the housewives in Mexico. A key event in this series has become the constant fighting which resulted in one of their fellow house wifes recording the moment.
During an episode the ladies took a trip to Mexico and were arguing in the Sprinter van, newcomer Britani Bateman was accused of recording their fight which created immense conflict. While she said she did not mean to record for any reason to cause problems, the other ladies all viewed her actions as shady and dishonest. This moment created questions for everyone surrounding trust.
She gave several explanations. Her first claim was that she was making a video for her daughter's celebration then she said she was attempting to reverse the camera. She said she wasn't recording for long when it showed it had been for over 24 seconds .
The ladies all rallied against Britani expressing distrust. They viewed her actions as an act of betrayal while referencing the Monica Garcia story from the previous season. All those involved questioned her intentions as each episode continues making it hard for some of the other women to find positive aspects of her.
Meredith viewed Britani’s actions in Mexico as violating a personal space while reflecting back on how her emotions had gotten her to take on the side eye approach to most everything. She suspected Britani had been a spy when she learned she claimed she heard Meredith vomiting in her room. Which has the result of them searching for hidden recording devices in Meredith's room and having an accusation thrown directly at Britani that is met with disdain.
Heather, who brought Britani into the group, expressed feelings of embarrassment while she defended the fact that she is not someone that cannot be trusted to make a decision. These emotions showed the great disappointment and conflict that occurred for her in real time.
Many ideas are explored in this season with the women coming from different walks of life to explore unique concepts together. However as that happens they come in constant contact with each other's emotions during this exploration. This continues in Mexico where they challenge friendship and forgiveness as all look for deeper understanding.
The filming event created mistrust within the cast after recent incidents regarding Monica in the season prior with similar aspects of behind the scenes information. It became a focal point of discussion as many looked back at those moments which they had previously tried to overcome together.
The reactions showcase what goes into strong relationships along with what causes bonds to break. There was exploration in how past trauma has affected their individual ability to move forward from situations such as these which ultimately created conflict and growth from them all.
Following their disagreement over the recording incident. She attempted to explain herself further which brought other components to the light that furthered distrust by other castmates. Alliances are seen broken, opinions given and what trust means is showcased and redefined.
Britani brought up her relationship with Jared at lunch which was seen by others to not make sense with current events. However the claim was that coming clean about the relationship was similar to a coming out to her community because she has close ties with members in her religious circle which carries many stigmas. While others empathized they found this admission had very little to do with their current issue at hand making the confusion a great area to study.
Viewers have very split opinions with some taking each woman's side along with acknowledging that all were equally valid as they move through these unique issues in an honest fashion. They seem to understand the reactions that each woman brings even in those moments of misdirected emotion.
The opinions vary where some question the validity of their outrage since a camera crew is there filming all they do while they still take the issue serious. Other reactions point to how different the series has been compared to others by recognizing the complex aspects to each person’s view. All these events are looked at by how realistic people can act when going through specific emotional moments.
