Netflix's hit teen drama Outer Banks is back with season 4, part 1, and things are about to get wild! The Pogues are at it again, but this time, a Treasure Hunt unearths some shocking family secrets, especially for JJ.
JJ's Big Secret
The first part of season 4 ends with a major revelation: JJ learns who his real parents are! It turns out that his parents are not who he thought they were and now his father is in serious danger! After getting a cryptic letter from the recently deceased Wes Genrette, JJ discovers the truth about Luke, his previously presumed father who's been dodging the cops, isn't really his dad. The real deal? It's Chandler Groff!
Wes' letter mentions the boat named Albatross which ties everything together!
- It appears his real mother was Larissa Genrette (Groff's wife), but some tragedy occurred and now there is some important questions to solve.
- According to Wes, Larissa died soon after witnessing the ghostly presence that has terrorized their family, that being the ghost of Blackbeard's wife! There were some dark moments from their parents' past but one of the major revelations is the fact that she was not killed as she drowned!
- She supposedly perished in the Albatross incident which involved some pretty mysterious goings-on. What is most unclear, was who Larissa was with or if someone killed her, but JJ may soon get to the bottom of his lineage!
- There was a major mystery and no one was sure that he was even alive.
This brings in Groff as one of the antagonists on the show as a very real culprit.
Groff's Alliances
The show gets even more suspenseful! As Groff is working with a sneaky real estate agent named Hollis Robinson. It turns out Robinson is a pretty long time friend of the previous Ward Cameron who's already had her share of challenges on the show. They've created a deal to make this even crazier for Rafe, and are buying Goat Island, pulling in Rafe using some serious amounts of persuasion. It leaves viewers to wonder just what nefarious plans are waiting in this plot!
Lightner And The Treasure Hunt
There is an awesome treasure hunt occurring that involves Blackbeard's treasure and Lightner and another powerful figure called Dalia want some action too!
- Lightner isn't an ordinary treasure hunter, he leads a big crew on a search for Blackbeard's loot, the amulet, specifically the amulet that belongs to Blackbeard's wife. It ends up that Lightner and Dalia are also working on the search!
- Lightner even seems to be reporting to this important figure, Dalia that wants something called "The Blue Crown".
- It is clear these figures really want this. And Lightner obtains Elizabeth's amulet from Pope which leads them to Charleston.
- In an incredibly fast moving storyline Lightner gets the goods! They were able to quickly take the scroll, leaving Pope and Sarah, trapped. Now they must do what's possible to be safe from these pirates!
John B's Decision to Not Shoot
What really sets the Outer Banks franchise aside! Is these moral, complex choices that are really put to the forefront. One major turning point! That showcases this element is John B's inability to pull the trigger. When Lightner makes a run for it John B could shoot him dead but some thoughts flood his memory. In this scene it looks like the ghosts of his own father come flooding back making John B see himself in his dad, reminding him that his path should be different from his father. This results in John B not being the killer.
The Pogues and Terrance's Death
There are plenty of mysteries and plot twists in Outer Banks, and not only are these characters in constant danger they must keep trying to work through what happens to them! In part 1, Terrance, the captain, gets into an unfortunate incident. In this show. He's shown that he actually wanted to save Cleo! After getting shot by Lightner, the Pogues find Terrance and instead of going to the cops they hid the body!
- Why didn't they just call Deputy Shoupe? That seemed obvious. They realized it would be almost impossible to get someone like Shoupe to believe their version of events, given that he sees them as problematic and they know their life as outlaws means they don't have much in the way of respect, particularly with people like the sheriff.
- Instead, they got to dispose of the body and got themselves ready for part 2!
Rafe's Surprising Change
What really pushes things forward is some great familial struggles in Outer Banks! Rafe blames his sister, Sarah, but goes through some real struggles! This happens after losing his father. It turns out he may even be capable of change! We get to see Rafe's interesting moment, as he's shown some major longing for having family again and wants to be a lot like his father, so in this crazy turn he hopes to become closer to Sarah.
Setting Up Part 2
As part 1 of season 4 ends it gives fans a whole set of incredible plot lines, from discovering that JJ's identity as a kid of a criminal is pretty surprising. You even get that Groff and Hollis Robinson are working together.
This only means more action as well as plenty of things that fans love! But it won't be easy! Part 2, might have to deal with the situation where Sarah and Pope may meet their unfortunate death. Trapped in a crypt as it gets flooded. Fans who loved season 4 will know the journey has many turns but with an open ending! They set us up to continue these adventures.
