NCIS: Origins Season 2 Renewal: Will Young Gibbs Return?

NCIS: Origins Season 2: Will Young Gibbs Return to Camp Pendleton?

NCIS: Origins – A New Era for the NCIS Franchise

The NCIS franchise is huge! But NCIS: Origins is different. It's a prequel, showing a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell, stepping into the legendary shoes of Mark Harmon) starting his career at Camp Pendleton in 1991 under his mentor Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid). This isn't your typical procedural; it’s character-driven; showcasing Gibbs' development. It's a new direction that could breathe new life into the long-running series, building a different approach based upon developing storylines with individual characters over an extensive period, offering possibilities unavailable for previous installments in the franchise; and could present that important origin for one of the best ever television characters.

This is the first NCIS spinoff going back in time! And it’s a big risk. It completely abandons those weekly cases featured so prominently throughout earlier NCIS installments; but given how incredibly popular Gibbs was; and that those past success and various iterations which led up to this latest release show there is huge opportunity; adding a renewed sense of hope for a potentially declining television franchise.

Will There Be an NCIS: Origins Season 2? The Big Question!

No official confirmation exists yet regarding season 2 for this prequel series! While CBS is keeping mum for now; it does make one question the reasons; and suggests reasons; most of these are simply financial based and this uncertainty exists purely due to financial limitations; this could only change based upon the success or failure for season 1 and also those long-term financial considerations, as a renewed series requires considerable investments that CBS only will likely pursue after knowing that there are guarantees toward its potential and the likelihood of positive returns.

Origins is a gamble for CBS. Other spin-offs worked – yet recent shows, like NCIS: Hawaii, got canceled. This makes Origins a test: does a character-driven approach that also showcases and explains one key character from another very famous franchise actually still work with current viewers?  If Origins is successful? That's huge!  CBS needs it; as they might then move forward with another upcoming spinoff, the new Tony & Ziva series!

NCIS: Origins Season 2 Storyline Possibilities: Exploring Uncharted Territory!

Season 2 storylines are still completely speculative; it remains very difficult to predict anything that might just appear, considering this is the very first episode, only providing the earliest foundation for the potential origin stories! That means there is potential. Even so, several important and possible options remain plausible!

The season 1 finale hasn’t even aired yet.  That means we know absolutely nothing about how things are left open! Yet this opens great possibilities for storytelling. We know Gibbs will develop new skills in future episodes; especially that key element regarding the later iterations and characteristics found in that main NCIS timeline; including his emotional experiences, learning to deal with losing his family and slowly developing into that extremely powerful and stoic version fans grew to know and love. Those moments still await. This suggests season 2 is crucial in his full evolution.

NCIS: Origins is more than just a prequel; It is also a very exciting opportunity, one with incredible storytelling potential; presenting a bold new chapter which could make the existing NCIS universe bigger. Whether it continues for many seasons remains completely uncertain; and hinges almost completely on season 1’s performance. That alone highlights what remains a major factor that makes people look into NCIS: Origins in general.   This really shows the long-term risk, but potentially enormous rewards this spinoff offers.
