The author is bummed that Martha Jones, a companion from the Doctor Who series, is likely not going to appear in the new spinoff, The War Between The Land And Sea. It was thought that Martha would return for the spinoff because Gugu Mbatha-Raw (who played Martha's sister, Tish) was announced as a member of the cast. However, it has been confirmed that she will not be playing Tish in the spinoff and that her role is a completely new character. So, because Mbatha-Raw will not be playing Tish, it seems unlikely that Martha will be making a return, as well.
The author feels that Martha Jones would have been a great addition to The War Between the Land and Sea because she is connected to UNIT and has experience traveling with the Doctor. Her skills and experience would have been very helpful in fighting the Sea Devils.
Martha Jones was a companion to the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. She appeared in the series for two seasons and has also appeared in the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood. Martha Jones made a comeback alongside Catherine Tate's Donna Noble in Doctor Who season 4.
The author feels that Martha Jones was one of the most intelligent companions and that her potential was not fully realized in the Doctor Who franchise. She believes that Martha's return in Doctor Who season 4 showed a lot of personal growth but that she was still not utilized to her full potential.
The author hopes to see a return of Donna Noble. Donna returned for the Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials and the author is hopeful that she will also make an appearance in The War Between the Land and Sea. The author hopes that the spinoff series will finally give Martha a chance to shine.
The author is excited about the new cast members, but is bummed that they will be playing new characters instead of reprising their old roles. The author was especially excited about Mbatha-Raw's role, as they thought she would be playing Tish, which would have made a Martha Jones return more likely.
