Landman the television show was created by Taylor Sheridan and highlights life within the oil industry in a dramatic form. A show set in Texas that explores corruption family conflict and the impact on lives and careers will bring a new audience in season 2 .
The first season of “Landman” introduced viewers to a cutthroat and complex world within the oil industry. Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris the lead character is highlighted for facing a myriad of challenges including law suits dangerous situations with cartels and various business deals. His role as both the protagonist and a symbol for what was at risk showed viewers the intensity of what the job entails.
Based on the podcast "Boomtown” that showed stories from those within this industry helped ground many ideas of this series. By pulling from real experiences and information, the writing showcased how many true aspects were portrayed while making it a great entertainment series. Co creator Christian Wallace mentioned real life information which helps to elevate and stay true to the show's vision.
The first season ended with major changes by ending it's main character who played M-Tex CEO Monty Miller . In his will Tommy is asked to take his position even though that’s not what he necessarily wanted while exploring all areas with character progression and adding elements from new relationships.
Although there is no official description, future episodes could dive deeper into the business side of this industry. There are many relationships which will have the opportunity to change and evolve as time progresses along with having several unanswered questions set to explore.
It will be shown how Tommy will now step up to lead in his new position even though that's not what he would ideally like to see. It showcases a potential area to expand on his personal journey while also balancing it with leadership challenges with different motivations.
With the introduction of a character named Galino there has now been new interest in how the Cartel and oil industry may or may not mix with both seeing how to control the flow of the new operations. New relationships may create a variety of new conflicts while exploring character personalities.
Both Thornton and Demi Moore will be taking on new parts and are willing to return to Landman if a second season is greenlit. All signs point towards this with comments from multiple cast and crew that would showcase that these changes may be made with new directions.
Along with a likely return of Thornton and Moore characters such as Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph will show their individual growth which will continue exploration in their storylines and complex personalities.
Although it has not been officially announced there have been a timeline given that states the beginning of a new season to begin in February or March of 2025. The show continues to gain in viewership which shows hope for a return.
The high praise and viewership during it’s initial run made the project the number one original show in Paramount+ history. Its reach into a wide range of demographics made it have a bigger impact than ever expected with a cult-like status for the production quality and storyline it showcased.
Thornton notes that there were no specific changes to be noted and he has given multiple comments about him as the lead role and what that means. From action to deep personal struggles he claims he wants to see what this will mean for both himself as the character and for fans.
Thornton mentions the desire to dive into the characters complexities. What does a position of leadership mean to him and how does he now interact with all the different entities that may impact his new business relationship. The change of responsibilities and navigating them all create new opportunities and insights in characters minds.
