The Longevity of Doctor Who Proved by Matt Smith's Doctor
Following Tennant and showrunner Russell T Davies's remarkable spell on Doctor Who, Smith was under a lot of pressure as the two helped confirm the series as a television hit once more following the fall into disrepute and cancelation in 1989. The BBC was reluctant to see whether the show could continue to flourish following the departure of its well-known main actor and showrunner, which resulted in consideration of Doctor Who cancellation in 2009. Smith and new showrunner Steven Moffat had to prove it could rejuvenate once more as such.
Smith's first performance in "The Eleventh Hour" was a showcase of everything viewers would come to love about his Doctor Who stint, among the youngest performers assuming the role. Though he looked young and had lively quirks, his version of the Time Lord had a tiredness that suggested he possessed years of knowledge and experience, and a courageous ability to face down any attacker. Smith's Eleventh Doctor was therefore fast able to show that the Time Lord still had life.
Karen Gillan Says Who She thinks to be the Best Doctor Who Lead
Former Doctor Who friend Karen Gillan talks down which Time Lord actor most appeals to her. Gillan originally played Amy Pond, the first face the Eleventh Doctor encountered and his first friend, in 2010. She later developed a close but rather complex connection with the Time Lord. Gillan would leave the show in season 7 partway through Matt Smith's stint two years later, but she would return in his last episode, "The Time of the Doctor," in the fall of 2013 to bid farewell to the eleventh Time Lord.
Gillan recently spoke out about why Smith is among the best performers to have ever taken on the Doctor Who role, according RadioTimes. The former friend claims that Smith managed to completely portray the Time Lord, bringing his own quirks and knowledge to suitably depict the character, despite pressure of being cast after David Tennant's departure. View Gillan's explanation below:
Legacies of the Doctor Who
Originally first shown in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi show featuring the Doctor—a strong being known as a Time Lord. Traveling time and space with different companions, the Doctor uses an interdimensional time-traveling ship called the TARDIS to solve several issues and assist prevent catastrophe as much as he nearly causes. The show has a unique and interesting characteristic since it is well-known for the several actors that performed the part. New artists have filled in for each departing doctor, producing many varied and beloved interpretations.

The Effect of Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith
Though it never expressed itself, he was clearly under pressure. He has an unearthly aspect, thus to me he is the best actor that has ever performed the Doctor. He tosses off technical jargon like it's a shopping list; he is inherently weird.
Smith, despite his age and inexperience, gave his all to performing the Doctor, drawing especially on Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor and even assisting with the creation of his now famous outfit. Gillan's compliments are therefore well earned as Smith demonstrated that the show would continue on air into its 50th anniversary and beyond and proven frightened BBC management incorrect. Now airing season 14, Doctor Who's influence is impossible to overestimate.
While season 14 publishes on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer every Friday, Smith's Doctor Who run may be seen on Max.
