Movies News Talk
Did you miss last week's SNL? No worries! But this week, it's back and just in time for election chatter too! The Five-Timers Club member John Mulaney hosted this week with some surprise cameos including our almost President Kamala and Hillary's VP, Tim Kaine, also!
Mulaney, known also for hilarious Trump "Horse in a Hospital" bit had amazing year already in 2024. With his Netflix special, a new variety show in works and a return to Broadway planned alongside Fred Armisen and Chloe Fineman!. There was even political commentary by former SNL writer Jim Downey. He reminisced during his legendary political sketches also alongside MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell and gave more personal opinions during an “America at a Crossroads townhall which aired during recent MSNBC Sunday.
This week opened with Chloe Fineman as CNN’s Kaitlan Collins cutting between candidate rallies. This let James Austin Johnson's tired Trump whine "Where hell am I?" (lol). He hated being here already at whatever venue, although given that the actual person enjoys "the attention itself from such rallies" that sounds a little "off character". Regardless Vance joined alongside!. But after Kamala's Maya Rudolph cuts things off (shes been texting everyone btw) while hubby Doug Emhoff (Andy Samberg also here. lol), who plans “SNL lawsuit rather than focusing too on Harris campaign despite even featuring across the skit, as she mentions jokingly “for a voter registration check!".
Even better?! Dana Carvey returned as Joe Biden!. And best surprise ever!. Actual VP Harris showed up! (Move over, Obama/Clinton Halloween cameo. Lol.). The dueling Kamalas were priceless, complete with "Keep Calm-ala" jokes.
Mulaney’s monologue covered his tiny family (five-week-old daughter and super-tall toddler included. LOL). Then everyone at home's relatively small, huh John!.
Musical guest Chappell Roan belted out "Pink Pony Club." This story involving rural Tennessean youth’s obsession for queer Hollywood/Pink Pony drag scene where that young girl longs to move away too towards where such subcultures allow thriving “personalities similar to hers. This surprisingly super-catchy synth-track had audience singing right there for a singalong and already previously featured on earlier Roan EP in “Rise/Fall of Midwest Princess also where other viral Roan TikToks trend too. However, in another segment she sang one “new” country-inspired lesbian anthem too! "The Giver!". Not first song of its sort, as similar subgenres existed since much older 80's-90’s country tracks, but absolutely fits perfectly alongside such recent "crossover into Country too with those by Roan here after we saw very popular artists in seemingly other styles such as Lana, and Bey hitting various charts this calendar-year through this genre switch.. Its amazing to note though in another earlier sketch Moo Deng too appears briefly via SNL actor Yang but this character actually appears briefly also despite those political and otherwise chaotic themes continuing “from season 50 premiere”. There are others such as SNL writer/actress Heidi playing McEntire as part “Weekend Update.” Just super crazy show so its better reading even this article twice honestly because otherwise some tiny details could “slide through rather than becoming memorable here.. Which definitely better also when wanting discuss also alongside fellow enthusiasts during our recap sessions.
There is some hilarious SNL stuff. Including this NASA "Beppo the Chimp" thing too! Imagine needing breaking terrible News to monkey in outer space… and "No more banana in the outer void.". Then watch how they do hilarious possum/breastmilk Lion King Broadway take off within New York’s infamous, Port Authority! (Who needs “Wicked.” lol.).
Pete, Chloe, Timothée Chalamet look alikes, and even our rapping, furry mayor! Its absolute mayhem.
There are tons more sketches too. Harvey Epstein. Then others with Reba McEntire too for some unexpected couple shenanigans also after noticing this during those online discussions surrounding "unlikelihood even being real!” given personalities from respective people, like from Jane as a Steven Universe obsessed party goer during an Eric Adam led PBS special where a past actor even from classic kid’s show "Full House gets also interviewed too!" but hey “that’s what also gives good Comedy material either rather than something being necessarily that far fetched.. These then end finally in various public-funded-televison skits and then closes.
There you have it too folks. It just needs seeing live to “truly experience it correctly also which honestly probably must require doing before attempting retelling also either in my assessment because otherwise something feels “off. I would feel better being one of those first ones “recounting some experience also, rather than purely attempting doing so either during some retelling even like here right now rather than rewatching, experiencing all also from these absolutely incredible show even.
