The casting for Daredevil Kingpin wasn't easy, but Vincent D'Onofrio Kingpin turned out to be a perfect fit. Find out more about what led to his amazing transformation into the intimidating and iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe Daredevil character!
Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight, had his work cut out for him. He really wanted to make sure he got the casting right for a complex Daredevil villain. While he was developing Daredevil series for Netflix, DeKnight and his team had to consider many things before the perfect Daredevil casting.
Vincent D'Onofrio's name quickly came up for Kingpin casting. He was incredibly popular, which made him a great choice. Unfortunately, because of his established reputation, DeKnight said the execs believed he was far too expensive, citing his involvement in Marvel TV and popular shows like Law and Order.
Surprisingly, when a casting director called up the actor to ask if he was interested in the role, D'Onofrio was willing to work things out! DeKnight mentioned D'Onofrio was actually a big Daredevil comic book fan, which helped with the Kingpin Casting. The story is a great example of how love for comics helped produce an amazing film!
With D'Onofrio, fans could experience an incredible, powerful version of Kingpin, otherwise known as Wilson Fisk! He quickly became an amazing presence for Daredevil Netflix series, even before Marvel Cinematic Universe Daredevil returned in She-Hulk. It's easy to see why he's also been a huge fan favorite in Daredevil season 2 and Daredevil season 3.
