A Wild House of the Dragon Theory: Daemon Targaryen and the Night King
If you're watching House Of The Dragon, then you've probably been sucked into the wild theories swirling around the show. The season 2 finale threw in some surprising plot points, particularly with all that weird Night King stuff, and well, a lot of folks started connecting those dots to none other than Daemon Targaryen.
Remember those super dramatic Night King theories from Game of Thrones that popped up ages ago? Fans are theorizing that Daemon Targaryen from the Game of Thrones prequel, House Of The Dragon, might become the same ice-cold baddie! It's a wild theory, but you know, House of the Dragon has given us some pretty wild surprises before!
The Evidence for a Night King/Daemon Connection
There's something pretty intriguing going on. If you look at some details from Game of Thrones and then back to the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, it's super easy to start piecing this whole "Daemon's gonna be the Night King" puzzle together. And it's all rooted in those super mystical Targaryen ties to dragons.
For those of you who love the finer points, consider that Daenerys was actually able to walk away without getting burnt when she got doused in dragon fire in Game of Thrones, and people started speculating that all Targaryen bloodlines were like magic when it came to fire. Remember those visions Daemon has in the finale of House of the Dragon? They featured some major highlights from Game of Thrones, like Daenerys and her dragons, even the Three-Eyed Raven! And then, it's boom – the White Walkers show up in Daemon's vision!
House of the Dragon and Those Night King Theories
It's fun to watch those theories fly around, but seriously? Does this make sense? I mean, people thought Daemon's mysterious look kinda reminded them of the Night King. Yeah, we see him rocking a pretty similar “winter warrior” aesthetic! A few folks even thought those awesome dragonfire theories, plus Daemon’s super brooding looks – all those were huge signs pointing toward Daemon becoming the Night King!
And since it's a "prequel" kind of story, that's even more crazy, 'cause they've got to explain how a Targaryen prince becomes the bad guy in Game of Thrones who tries to wipe everyone out. The whole plot starts spinning around and people got into that theory so hard!
Does This Really Make Sense Though?
While it’s totally exciting to watch these theories roll, I don't know if this will actually play out, because if you take a close look at the whole "Night King" origin story from Game of Thrones, the Children of the Forest did the big baddie magic that created him. And there’s that bit about the Night King being super, super old.
So for all the fun the Daemon theory has created – it just won't work out that way! I mean, even if the writers found some sneaky way to change that part of the story, it wouldn’t make any sense to turn Daemon into that same bad guy who was literally centuries old, but it's cool that people want to play around with this "destiny-filled Targaryen stuff!"
How Could the Night King Actually Connect to the Targaryen History
Sure, those theories that Daemon might turn into the Night King sound super weird, but it's not actually totally wild that a Targaryen family member could end up as an integral part of the whole White Walker prophecy, and I mean Game of Thrones, the show itself already set this up! It looks like the future of the Targaryens (and everyone in Westeros) is totally entangled with the threat of the Night King and the White Walkers.
We can all see how the writers of House of the Dragon, and even the guy who writes all these "Game of Thrones" stories – George R.R. Martin – they both know how to put in the details that are like those crazy “huh?” moments, even though it seems like they have a loose connection at best. It makes everyone ask the question: What's up with all this White Walker action going on? Maybe, maybe, just maybe, the writers are taking all that Targaryen lineage and twisting it for their storyline. The idea that someone like Daemon might have something to do with that destiny just seems to create a ton of dramatic possibilities!
Daemon's Fate and The White Walker Army - One Huge "What If"
We’re totally excited about that third season, but the last thing I want is for it to turn into Game of Thrones season 8. That said, House of the Dragon seems like it's really doing a great job in how it tells the story.
Now, as far as Daemon’s death goes? That whole thing was kind of an open book. We know it happened, it’s part of the saga, but what if? It’s pretty mind-blowing, I gotta say. We've got this really intriguing idea of these Targaryens with this almost mythical ability to cheat death, and now people are trying to wrap the "Daemon" character into that “immortal destiny.” That just leaves a whole lot of unanswered questions – especially with those super-strong, powerful dragons in the world. How is the world gonna fare against this White Walker threat, because if we go back to what happened in Game of Thrones, we can't forget that Night King got defeated! And that might happen again, but all of this "Targaryen-White Walker connection" is just going to make everyone ask, "What’s going to happen next?”
