House of the Dragon Confirms Stormcloud
House Of The Dragon season 2 finally confirms that Aegon's dragon Stormcloud has hatched. In season 1, the show largely ignored the younger generation of House Targaryen's family tree, but season 2 is starting to show how important they'll be in the future. Rhaenyra mentions Stormcloud when discussing the Dragons she's sending with Rhaena, confirming that Aegon's dragon is small, but "will grow."
This is great news for fans of the show as Stormcloud plays an important role in a big battle that's coming up soon, the Battle Of The Gullet.
The Battle of the Gullet
House Of The Dragon's confirmation of Stormcloud sets up the Battle of the Gullet, a major event in the Dance of the Dragons. In Fire & Blood, Aegon, Viserys, and Stormcloud sail to Essos. However, they're caught in a trap that leads to the Battle of the Gullet. Aegon rides Stormcloud for the first time to escape, leaving Viserys behind. Unfortunately, Stormcloud dies from his injuries and Aegon's news of the attack leads to Prince Jacaerys and Vermax flying into battle, resulting in their deaths.
The Battle Of The Gullet is expected to happen in House of the Dragon season 3, as Prince Jacaerys is still alive in season 2.
Aegon's Age is a Problem
While House of the Dragon confirming Stormcloud gives hope for the Battle of the Gullet happening in season 3, Aegon's age might pose a problem. In Fire & Blood, Aegon the Younger is around 10 years old when he rides Stormcloud. However, in House of the Dragon, Aegon seems to be no older than five, given that Joffrey is only six. Unless the show magically ages up Aegon, he might be too young to fly Stormcloud in season 3.
The show might have to make some changes to adapt this part of the story. It would be interesting to see how they work around this potential issue.
The Dragons of House of the Dragon
The Dance of the Dragons is a conflict between the Greens and the Blacks, both of which have a number of dragons at their disposal. The Dragons of the Greens include Sunfyre, Vhagar, Caraxes, Dreamfyre, Meleys, Tessarion, Vermax, Moondancer, Tyraxes, Seasmoke, Vermithor, and Silverwing. The Dragons of the Blacks include Syrax and Stormcloud.
With war erupting in Westeros, we're going to see these dragons in action as the Greens and Blacks battle for the Iron Throne.
