House of the Dragon: A Massive Betrayal is Brewing (But Not the Way You Think)
Hey guys! House Of The Dragon keeps throwing curveballs at us, and I'm here to break down one of the biggest changes they've made, even though it might seem small at first.
In the books, Ser Gwayne Hightower, Alicent's brother, is a key player in the City Watch (the King's Landing police force). He's basically there to keep an eye on the City Watch leader, because, well, everyone's suspicious of everyone else in this world.
Now, here's the twist: In the show, Gwayne's been sent out with Criston Cole's army. This changes things a bit because the book hints that when Rhaenyra takes over King's Landing, the City Watch turns against the Greens (Alicent's side). In the books, Gwayne gets captured and killed by the City Watch leader, showing just how deep the Betrayal goes.
But wait, there's more! The show changed another important element: Blood & Cheese. In the books, Blood & Cheese were assassins sent to kill Rhaenyra's son. The show made Blood a City Watch member, and he even mentioned that the Watch is loyal to Daemon Targaryen (Rhaenyra's uncle) and hates the Hightowers.
So, even though they changed some details, the show is still setting up this big Betrayal. The show is subtly hinting that the City Watch isn't going to be on the Green's side, and it's all thanks to the changes they made with Blood & Cheese.
The showrunners are really playing with the source material, keeping the big moments but changing the details to keep things fresh. I can't wait to see how they play out this betrayal!
