Why Some Star Wars Fans Find Anakin Not "Special" Anymore?
After episode 3 of The Acolyte, "Destiny," aired, many worried about Star Wars newcomers Mae and Osha replacing Anakin Skywalker or, at least, were stealing his background depending on their origins. Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril, the twins' mothers, talk on the twins' conception in the episode. They disclose in the discussion that Mother Aniseya produced the twins while Mother Koril carried them.
Though the episode did not prove that this occurred with the Force, presumably Mother Aniseya produced the twins using the Force (or, the Thread, which is what their coven, the Witches of Brendok, call the Force). If such is the case, the twins are the only Star Wars characters identified to have been born using the Force other than Anakin Skywalker. This raises questions for many since some feel Anakin Skywalker is no longer "special" in Star Wars.
The third Acolyte episode reveals important background and major history of Mae and Her Twin Sister Osha, together including the significance of their conception.
Viewers of the third Acolyte episode have generated a lot of buzz—and some panic—about whether Anakin Skywalker has just been replaced in Star Wars. The newest Force-sensitive twins in Star Wars movies and TV series, Mae and Osha were brought by The Acolyte. Though Twins might remind us of Luke and Leia, certain features of Osha and Mae thus far have been more linked to Anakin.
Saying Anakin has a particular place in Star Wars would be a great understatement. Anakin was not just among Star Wars' most potent Jedi but also the one foreseen in the Chosen One prophecy. Given that importance and Anakin and Hayden Christensen are fan favorites, the character has maybe been elevated in the series. Now, episode three of The Acolyte offers background on Mae and Osha that many believe compromises Anakin's legacy, but does it really?
Anakin isn't "Special" because of his birth, per George Lucas.
Unfounded and a misinterpretation of Anakin as a character, the worry Osha and Mae are about to replace Anakin Skywalker or diminish his journey in the franchise is baseless. Although Anakin's perspective was a unique occurrence in Star Wars, that was hardly the only factor defining his significance or what drove most about his character. George Lucas himself has already personally addressed directly how little Anakin's birth affected his general narrative and fate.
Regarding the riddle of Anakin's creation via the Force, George Lucas has said that the significance is in Anakin's fulfillment of the prophecy rather than his birth conditions. Lucas said in a 2005 Rolling Stone interview:
Now the film hints that a Sith lord possessed the ability to generate life. Unspoken, though, is whether Anakin is the result of a super-Sith influencing the midichlorians to create him, or whether he was formed by the Force via the midichlorians to bring forth a prophesy. The viewers have to make the decision. Ultimately, his birth has no bearing on his death since the prophesy is accurate: balance returns to the Force.
The Acolyte has not brought any fresh chosen ones at all.
It's not even clear right now whether Mae and Osha were created via the Force. Actually, it appears more likely that Mother Aniseya created the twins using a Force power; this is somewhat distinct from George Lucas's conception of the Force acting on its own will. The truth is, until The Acolyte verifies exactly how the twins were created, not enough data exists to deduce how Anakin's story affects the twins. The Acolyte is most definitely not producing brand-new Chosen Ones, though.
Almost no possibility exists another character may come along and replace Anakin in the franchise, even outside the concept of the Chosen One. Lucas claimed, in fact, "I made a series of movies that was about one thing: Darth Vader," in that same interview. Star Wars' heart is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, hence new characters won't have the same impact as the Skywalker Saga. No, Star Wars: The Acolyte isn't replacing Anakin Skywalker, hence as the franchise develops more narratives and characters should thrill rather than raise anxiety over his replacement.
