Season 21 Gray's Anatomy Release Date
Grey's Anatomy has had the staying power of no medical drama; the long-running ABC series comes back for its historic 21st season. With Grey's Anatomy season 21 already announced, all eyes turn to the future following the premiere of the show's historic 20th season. Beginning in 2005, the smash-hit ABC medical drama tracks the doctors and nurses of a fictional Seattle hospital as they handle all kinds of health crises while still juggling their demanding personal lives. The show rules the ratings and is a real TV institution year after year, even if it has changed significantly since its debut.
Beyond the main series, three Grey's Anatomy spinoffs have broadened the universe of the Shonda Rhimes-created program in popularity. Though the show has changed from the start, season 20 marks the largest shift of all since star Ellen Pompeo has mostly left the show following the first 19 seasons. Although Ellen Pompeo isn't gone for good, her leaving marks the largest challenge to Grey's Anatomy's longevity and marks the beginning of a new era in season 20. Given its popularity, Grey's Anatomy season 21 is not too far off.

Season 21 cast of Grey's Anatomy
Though the cast across seasons 19 and 20 will probably change, Grey's Anatomy season 21 will probably stay mostly whole to maintain continuity. Ellen Pompeo will play Dr. Grey in 7 episodes of season 21, although leaving as a full-time cast member following season 19. Though a major death or shocking departure is always possible, season 21's main cast will look a lot like season 20. The primary change is the departure of Scott Speedman as Dr. Nick Marsh, whose character is heading to Boston with Meredith. Furthermore confirmed to be leaving the series this season are Mika Yasuda (Midori Francis) and Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli).
Though it's not clear if they will remain on for season 21, Season 20 boasts a few returns including Jessica Capshaw returning in her capacity as Dr. Arizona Robbins and Alex Landi as Dr. Nico Kim. Grey's Anatomy has apparently been resurrecting legacy characters to help offset the impact of Ellen Pompeo's leaving the show, and other returns are possible. Jason George's return as Dr. Ben Warren marks one officially new arrival for season 21. George left Grey's to star in the spinoff, Station 19, back in 2018; but, once the spinoff was canceled, he will be a regular once more. Another arriving character—a new chaplain—who is openly gay and a superhero fan has also been revealed and described. The actor portraying this new chaplain is yet unknown.

Grey's Anatomy Season 21 Story
As expected, the ending of Grey's Anatomy season 20 was turbulent and filled with twists, and it sets up a lot of drama for season 21. Perhaps most shockingly, Meredith turned in her resignation and allowed the NIH to publish Alzheimer's research. This decision will have massive fallout going forward, and could even be the true swan song for the long-running character. Likewise, Catherine firing Teddy, Owen, and Amelia will probably not sit well with the rest of the hospital, especially after Teddy's heroics during surgery. Unsurprisingly, Grey's Anatomy season 21 is shaping up to be the most explosive outing in years.
A high-intensity medical drama which follows Meredith Grey and the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial, who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.
