Will FBI: Most Wanted Return for Season 7? What We Know So Far!

FBI: Most Wanted Season 7: Is it Happening?

Fans of FBI: Most Wanted are eagerly awaiting news about a possible season 7. The popular crime procedural, created by René Balcer from Dick Wolf's universe, finished its sixth season in 2024 and left us all hanging.  That ending, filled with major unresolved plot threads which really generated interest in possible upcoming storylines and plot details. Will CBS renew this hit show? This article reveals what we know.

FBI: Most Wanted debuted in 2020, quickly branching off from the wildly popular flagship FBI series. This popular crime drama series follows the New York Fugitive Task Force as they pursue dangerous criminals nationwide; and this very formula helped to gain interest in this exciting procedural-type of crime drama, yet also successfully differentiated from its original by emphasizing the close relationships within the Task Force. And that’s a clever storytelling technique!  This series has made changes throughout the years. Those very changes have also enhanced its continued existence.

CBS hasn't officially renewed FBI: Most Wanted for season 7 (yet!). But this isn't exactly cause for panic.   While Most Wanted and its sibling series, International generally receive one-season orders annually; its existence isn’t guaranteed.   This contrast with the flagship series FBI, renewed for three additional seasons, looks great for those hoping for Most Wanted’s renewal.

Most Wanted, while perhaps not as popular as FBI, has maintained a really dedicated audience delivering consistent ratings! The massive commitment shown towards the original FBI series—by CBS— suggests that they might indeed want to keep this universe growing. So, what could possibly be implied?

This part remains uncertain as changes are already expected to happen across this universe's many shows, however these would remain uncertain until a later date is confirmed for these seasons! The FBI franchise, across all shows, changes cast regularly. Most Wanted, unfortunately has been among those productions who've seen frequent shifts within their ensemble characters and while it remains uncertain just what exactly may occur before season 7 (assuming it comes); but there is some reason for optimism:

This casts remains a pretty stable group – despite earlier changes. This core team continues its great work even as many characters are removed, this consistent work from earlier years is largely what gives this series its own uniquely compelling character developments; further emphasizing its ongoing relevance which helped establish itself as a long-running and continued work by CBS! Assuming it comes back – expect to see those core members of the Fugitive Task Force. It’s assumed many people already wish for this to happen. This might also continue; given their ongoing presence:

  • Dylan McDermott as SSA Remy Scott
  • Roxy Sternberg as Special Agent Sheryll Barnes
  • Shantel VanSanten as Special Agent Nina Chase
  • Keisha Castle-Hughes as Special Agent Hana Gibson
  • Edwin Hodge as Special Agent Ray Canon
That entire team! Plus numerous guest stars—although these folks remain unnamed.

This part’s purely speculative.  Season 6 isn’t over yet! It’s difficult to guess but we do know some details. Most Most Wanted episodes focus on a case per week; but the Fugitive Task Force is always up for tackling multiple overarching storylines across those weeks; bringing ongoing arcs; and many of those existing threats; which also will add another element for an impending season, those plot points will likely carry over and be tied in and create more connections which really adds layers to this otherwise simpler procedural style storytelling.

While CBS hasn't made any decisions (yet!), FBI: Most Wanted's continued strong performance creates reasons for optimism.  Its status remains largely ambiguous until the time comes where more decisions become concrete, The procedural’s consistent fan base provides solid foundations for continuation. Those previous casting decisions and continued relevance across recent seasons have earned itself considerable support which helped keep this title on the air and popular amongst fans.  It’s still largely uncertain exactly when we might see another update regarding this impending possibility of season 7. The only choice? Keep an eye out for official news!
