Paramount+ is ending its spooky series, Evil, with season 4 despite its popularity, high ratings, and critical praise. It seems doubtful by now that an Evil season 5 would exist outside of the four addendum episodes piled on the end of season 4. Thus, hoping for an Evil spin-off series is the most exciting choice available to viewers yearning more experiences in the Evil universe.
Robert and Michelle King, Evil inventors, have not publicly or formally mentioned if they are looking at spin-off possibilities yet. Still, the pair choosing to create a new series around their unique and varied set of obstacles and adopt a character from the present series piques a lot of interest. Although a spin-off won't be precisely the same as the much-loved Evil series, there are several components needed to make it a fitting successor for what could have been an Evil season 5 and beyond.
Regarding spin-off programs, Robert and Michelle King have a remarkable record. Behind the CBS legal drama The Good Wife, which had a hit six-season spin-off The Good Fight, and the now running Elsbeth was the couple. The Kings drive their gripping stories with snappy dialogue and know how to create a convincing environment with real and engaging characters.
Robert and Michelle King would have to be involved in some capacity if an Evil spin-off could satisfy the high standards viewers want from the show. Under the Kings, the spin-off might veer in several directions. It might resemble a more conventional spin-off series, akin to The Good Fight. Alternatively it may be more like Elsbeth, where, as Michelle King informed The Hollywood Reporter:
"I never thought of us as doing a spin-off. It was an other show, and the world is so very different."
Like The Good Wife, Evil is the great thing about it since it allows one to investigate many several angles and narrative devices. If Ben (Aasif Mandvi) were the lead of an Evil spin-off, for instance, the program may center him and his sister Karima (Sohina Sidhu) debunking haunted homes and scary clout-chasing shows like Gotham Ghosts, where Ben met Vanessa (Nicole Shalhoub). The show offers countless opportunities; the Kings are the best in bringing out that potential and turning it into television gold.
The deft mix of genres in Evil distinguishes it from the TV and streaming scene of today. It naturally employs humor to soften sometimes severe events and give its characters more layers; it also deftly moves from horror to comedy, offers depth to subjects most horror writers just examine on a surface level. Then evil can somehow combine these components into a gripping drama that presents an even-handed perspective of the Catholic Church without running from its most severe critique.
Like with the current series, a spin-off from Evil season 4 will need to combine these genres if it is to be successful. It should stay self-aware and not take itself seriously independent of its method or lead characters. Arguably, this is what has made American Horror Story boring as every season forgets its universe rules and treats itself somewhat too highly. Taking Evil in this path would damage the heritage of the program and undercut its special appeal and deft mix of horror, humor, and the supernatural.
An Evil spin-off would especially find it challenging to exclude cameos by the main actors of the present program. Working on the show, David ( Mike Colter), Kristen (Katja Herbers), and Ben are so vital; a spin-off would feel a little hollow without even a trace of them. The attractiveness of the show depends mostly on their chemistry and dynamic; however, their absence from a spin-off could make it difficult to recreate the same charm.
Of course, an Evil spin-off series might center on one of the trio and examine their life before or after they all meet. A David spin-off might explore his life before discovering Christianity and, as a rehabilitated sex addict, this could be a spicy fresh path for the Evil world. On the other hand, a David spin-off might follow him following the series conclusion of Evil season 4. Should he survive, maybe he is invited to the Vatican to become part of the Entity? This would cause the spin-off to veer more toward the otherworldly, but it gives Kristen and Ben some intriguing possibilities for returning in cameos.
Evil already features a lot of precisely defined characters fit for a spin-off. A Leland (Michael Emerson) or Sheryl (Christine Lahti) prequel as well as a spin-off featuring Kristen's four daughters have also been suggested by several Reddit users Still, Evil cannot ever be a perfect substitute. It has been a unique show, so cancellation of it will leave people wondering about what to do with their Paramount+ subscriptions.
Following the cancellation of the Paramount+ drama Evil, a spinoff series focused on the demon-hunting nun Sister Andrea might be the best course forward.
Focused on a priest, clinical psychologist, and contractor investigating unusual incidents like demonic possession as they track the causes of evil, Evil is a Paramount+ original. Designed by Michelle King and Robert King, the show explores the junction of science and religion while the team searches for any scientific justifications for the team's experienced supernatural happenings.
