A major announcement: Ralf Little (Neville Parker) is stepping aside after an exciting three seasons, creating the necessary need for another key member. It will come as no surprise to many people who love the series, this show keeps changing its leads – and viewers just can’t get enough, leading to another significant moment of anticipation which sets the entire next chapter: The newest DI (as announced in May 2024 via DigitalSpy), Don Gilet as DI Mervin Wilson—will appear first during this year's Christmas special; (that will drop in December 2024)! Gilet is renowned, too, known best from EastEnders (playing Lucas Johnson),  adding yet another moment to this amazing British crime drama!

Gilet's already aware of how incredibly important this character will be!  He mentioned his thoughts and approach in various media such as, “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated.”  Even more encouraging are the comments and support given by executive producer Tim Key, saying,  “We're delighted that he's joining us as the show enters another exciting new era. We've got huge plans for the new series and beyond, and I can't wait for the audience to meet Mervin and to see what we've got in store…” It really sounds like they will have quite a few major plans.
