The second season of Daryl Dixon carries on a 12-year walking dead tradition never ending.
After a major revelation in the trailer for Daryl Dixon season 2, one continuous custom in the The Walking Dead universe that spans twelve years seems ready to continue.
Daryl Dixon Will Carry On A 12-Year Franchise Tradition The Walking Dead
Based on the teaser for season 2, Daryl Dixon seems destined to uphold a 12-year-old franchise legacy suggesting this trend won't fade anytime soon. Set to premiere in September, the spinoff will follow Daryl Dixon's travels in France helping to fight against Genet and her army. Although his European trip was unplanned, Daryl has formed fresh alliances abroad, so casting doubt on his possible return to the US in Daryl Dixon season 2. Carol's arrival in the next film will only serve to complicate Daryl's narrative even more.
Though Daryl Dixon season 1's ending showed that Daryl Dixon harbored mixed emotions about returning to the US, suggesting that Carol's arrival will force a significant decision, Daryl Dixon spent much of the main series trying to get home. Sadly for Daryl, his forthcoming trip won't be easy as he faces major challenges. Following the release of new walker models in season 1, the trailer for season 2 revealed a brilliant zombie variation that Norman Reedus's character had to overcome. This is not his toughest challenge, though, since Genet's group will assist to uphold a 12-year Walking Dead legacy including Daryl.
Daryl Dixon Season 2 Continues His Trend Of Being Captured
The trailer for Daryl Dixon season 2 focused on the titular character being arrested and imprisoned in a cell, so extending a long-standing pattern. Though one of The Walking Dead's most strong and clever survivors, Daryl will have difficulties in season 2 since the spinoff's teaser showed a group of armed people corracing him on a set of stairs. Following surrender, the teaser then shows Daryl locked in some kind of cell—a situation he is all too familiar with. Daryl Dixon seems not to be breaking this trend anytime soon, having already been caught many times in season 1.
Previously revealed in his Walking Dead spinoff, Season 1 shows how Daryl Dixon ended up in France: he was captured and put on a boat before escaping and washing ashore. He was also caught in episode 2 by a group of kids who turned out to be friendly and then once more near the end of the season by Genet before escaping. Season 2 marks the continuation of a 12-year trend, thus it seems the spinoff has completely embraced Daryl's history of being caught, implying that this cliché might always be connected with the character.
Daryl's Ludicrous History of Being Taken Prisoners in the Walking Dead Expained
Although Daryl's time in captivity seems extreme in his spinoff, this is only the top of the iceberg. Being captured more than any other Walking Dead character, Daryl has come to define his persona as such. It started in season three when Daryl went to locate Merle following news he was alive was discovered by The Governor and ordered to fight his own brother. Although his first taste of incarceration was his stay in Woodbury, he would encounter many such events over his time in the apocalypse.
Along with his fellow survivors, Daryl was taken prisoner by the Terminus group in season 4 and The Saviors in season 6, two quite different events. The Saviors released them while they were fighting their way out of Terminus, but Daryl would later find himself imprisoned by the group upon being compelled to work for them. The Claimers and The Reapers also abducted Daryl and made him join their group. These interactions were mostly hostile since he was not let to leave even though he was given a sense of freedom inside these factions.
After accompanying Michonne to find Judith, Daryl even came under capture by some young children. During a flashback episode in season 9, Judith vanished and the pair set out to find her only to be duped by a group of children under Jocelyn - Michonne's former school friend. Though Daryl Dixon has a past of being caught in The Walking Dead, he has survived every encounter and is obviously an escape master, thus these scenes are all the more interesting to watch despite the lack of suspense.
Why hasn't Daryl Constantly Escaping Captivity become tiresing yet?
Although Daryl's continuous escapes from captivity should have become boring by now, it is still a fun essential of the character. Even if it's difficult to really get engaged in the risk of Daryl's scenes while imprisoned, it can still be fun to see him flee and see the turmoil he causes. Given that Daryl is one of the main characters in the franchise, it is quite unlikely that a villain could catch him and just kill him. The excitement, though, comes from seeing the schemes he and his friends create to reclaim their freedom.
The spinoff's continuation of this continuous trend should remain a fun, if somewhat ridiculous, feature of Daryl Dixon's character as long as he can keep making these encounters interesting and unique. Although Season 2 has already apparently revealed Daryl's next escape's technique, it should be interesting since it seems he will leave a trail of casualties behind. Knowing that he is practically assured to be safe in every one of these scenes could lessen the suspense, but it's interesting to see some villains outwitted and maybe facing dire consequences. The spinoff's continuation of this continuous trend should remain a fun, if somewhat ridiculous, feature of Daryl Dixon's character as long as he can present these encounters in an interesting and original way.
