Star Wars Legend Origins: Darth Tenebrous
Originally featured in an issue of Star Wars Insider, Darth Tenebrous's persona developed later in James Luceno's book, "Star Wars: Darth Plagueis." Though they merely provided a brief window into his existence, both of those appearances are now regarded as non-canon "Legends" stories. Tenebrous was the Sith Master of Darth Plagueis, thereafter the Master of Darth Sidious—also known as Sheev Palpatine. Mostly found in the Cantina band in Mos Eisley, the Bith race most famously appears in the original Star Wars. But Tenebrous was hardly a straightforward musician.
Like many Sith Lords, Tenebrous harbored a secret identity. Most of the galaxy knew him as Rugess Nome, a well-known shipbuilder whose affluent clients sought after designs. Still, most of Tenebrous's portrayal in Legends was that of dead or dying. Keeping with the Sith Rule of Two, Plagueis killed Tenebrous and replaced him as a Sith Lord. Tenebrous implanted his consciousness into his apprentice using essence transfer while he was dying. Though Tenebrous's essence transfer essentially made the leap to canon, in a sense, and formed part of Palpatine's Project Necromancer, that was a failed attempt to live forever.
Only Name-Drop From Darth Tenebrous Found in Star Wars Canon
Though he has been canonized recently, Darth Tenebrous is practically entirely derived from Star Wars Legends. Tenebrous was referenced in Build the Millennium Falcon #44, a canon guide on creating a copy of Han Solo's renowned ship, in 2015. That was his first encounter with contemporary Star Wars canon, although Tenebrous was also among the few Sith cited in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, therefore confirming his existence in canon. Tenebrous has only ever shown twice outside of Legends; The Acolyte might have given him a far more noticeable presence.

The Acolyte's chronology fits this concept: Tenebrous was born at least 100 years ago; she was killed by plague in 67 BBY ( Before the Battle of Yavin). Tenebrous would have been living and active as a Sith Lord during The Acolyte, which takes place in 132 BBY. Although Tenebrous is most likely in The Acolyte, at this moment it hasn't been verified yet.
Though the program seems to be strongly indicating that it is in fact Tenebrous, the Sith Lord of The Acolyte is yet unknown for now. One major piece of evidence questions the theory of Tenebrous being the Sith Lord for The Acolyte. Tenebrous most certainly had too big of a head to fit that helmet as a bith. Tenebrous did, however, don a cybernetic respirator, and the "teeth" on The Acolyte's Sith Lord seem to be precisely that. The Acolyte might have also simply turned Tenebrous into a human rather than a Bith. None of his canon appearances indicated that he was a Bith, hence it wouldn't really be a retcon if he were human and it would preserve the element of surprise of the program.
