Voit's relationship with Rossi mirrors what the character experienced with Everett Lynch. Played by Castle actor Michael Mosley, Lynch was a recurrent villain during the original run of the show and the primary villain of Criminal Minds season 15. Lynch, a con artist and serial killer aiming at affluent ladies, also set his sights on killing Rossi and his wife. Lynch had the opportunity to kill Rossi and seize his face as a twisted prize of sorts in a particularly sinister plot, but he decides against it.
Driven to the point where Rossi nearly quits the BAU, Rossi gets totally fix on finding Lynch. When Lynch tries to flee via jet, he finally dies; the most recent development in Criminal Minds: Evolution reveals Rossi is turning back into old and dangerous habits. Showrunner Erica Messer assures me that the revival will take the opportunity to delve deeper into the characters in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, even though the Paramount+ Original comprises of less episodes than its CBS equivalent.

Mantegna: Though it's a somewhat different dynamic, he and I have done this dance for some time and it's gone from the silly to the sublime and everything else. Regarding that relationship, we have ran the gamut. Thus, investigating this character of Voit is interesting and fun since, as I have found, there are so many facets to it.
Gilford: Voit had an aloofness about him at the end of last season, and that's sort of the feeling he's portraying whenever he is in his brain since that's what Rossi knows of him. Another side of him exists where he is even more of a suck-head than he was. His current strategy, in my opinion, is simply getting under people's skin and using whatever kind of manipulation available. And it's practically more fun and lighthearted. Playing two distinct sides of him is interesting.
