Chicago PD Season 12 Is Rebooting Patrol Stories!
It's back, the iconic Chicago P.d., and it's getting some major storytelling shake-ups. The show has just cast Toya Turner, a real game changer, and this signals the show going back to its roots. I'm talking about more storylines that highlight the life of patrol officers. What a good move for the Chicago Police Department, especially since we've seen the focus shift to the Intelligence Unit for the past few years.
For a while now, Chicago PD's been focusing a lot on Upton, who just left the Intelligence Unit at the end of Season 11, as well as her connection to Halstead who had left a couple years before her. They tried to take those character arcs into the spotlight with mixed results, to say the least. It feels good to have that focus move away and into more patrol-oriented stuff.
Patrol Officers Are Back! And It's Time to Embrace Change.
We are about to get those great "Chicago P.d. stories" back again. If you're a long-time fan, then remember those scenes of Burgess and Atwater working the streets. This was back in Season 1, before Atwater got a big promotion to the Intelligence Unit and Burgess was bumped up later too. That plot, unfortunately, kind of lost its appeal once they both made that jump, but it's back with a vengeance. We’ve got this new Patrol Officer in the spotlight, which means they’re not just the "second-tier" officers. We’re gonna be hearing those boots pounding on the street, and see a whole different view of law enforcement.
It’s always fascinating how these storylines with the Patrol Officers can be intertwined with those intense Intelligence Unit missions. Imagine seeing how information and clues are exchanged from those patrol officers - they're kind of like the "on-the-street" intel team – giving those detectives a glimpse into what's happening outside their "big unit" perspective. Now with Toya playing Officer Cook in this next season, this type of "connection between those on the beat and the bigger picture" is gonna be something we watch for closely.
Chicago PD Season 12: Beyond Just Voight
Over time, there have been some key players in Chicago PD that everyone has been wondering about - who's going to fill in those missing gaps. With Halstead leaving in Season 10 and Upton’s departure, that shift was really evident. And who do we focus on the most, besides all the crime drama and tense stand-offs? We get to see all that intense drama related to Burgess, and her relationships with Ruzek, and how all that's impacting her as she navigates work life.
It feels like Chicago PD has really hit the “formula” with its drama-driven approach, and the latest focus was a "What is going to happen next to Upton? " storyline. However, now there’s this unique shift to bring on patrol stories, not more drama about another detective joining the team. Maybe they're moving away from “Voight as a constantly-troubled hero” and leaning towards something a bit different, a breath of fresh air in that dark universe.
It's Time to Dive Into the Next Season of "Chicago P.D"
Season 12, with these major new additions – like Toya as Officer Cook! – is probably going to deliver a ton of interesting storylines. Everyone’s been thinking: Will they keep the same characters and make their arcs bigger, or introduce new players to spice things up? With all those clues – those patrol stories! - It feels like we are in for a season that dives into those new areas that will leave a real impact. And don’t forget those crossovers – who knows which characters might pop up, and who knows what sort of crime scenes will be happening, but for now we just gotta wait!
And the next premiere for Season 12 is set to hit NBC on September 21. Get ready to get your weekly crime fix and, most importantly, watch to see what kind of magic they create by bringing these patrol stories to the forefront! We know the show’s been playing the crime card and “will they or won’t they” relationship drama, and the introduction of new characters promises to stir things up a bit! But for those who appreciate some hardcore law enforcement content and stories that are more than just the dark world of a "super cop," Season 12 feels like it’s going to deliver. The question is, will we actually be getting back to those really well-crafted plots from the earlier seasons or is the show trying to find its way out of a creative rut?
