Janeway went through it all in her career as "Captain", dealing with some difficult moments! She showed love and kindness! The series allowed for Captain Janeway, the tough, determined, inspiring hero, to not just exist as a single aspect.

Even though her life might have been filled with amazing experiences, what made Janeway so loved, and that which resonated with fans of the series was that she gave audiences an experience that made her incredibly human and complex. When you look back, the series wasn't really making much of this kind of complexity as many "Star Trek" characters were sometimes, over simplified. For women specifically, they were shown through the narrow lenses of how a female figure was perceived! There was this odd kind of struggle!

For "Star Trek", this was a critical change. Janeway went way beyond just being a stereotype and that is what helped create this legacy.

Fans, and the incredible writers and everyone on the show did an amazing job, showing us Captain Janeway with all of her great qualities, including the struggles and sadness. To many it might have seemed boLD. But, this is just what the series needed.
