Based on a True Story Season 2: What We Know So Far

Based on a True Story is returning to Peacock for season 2, bringing back Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina for more dark comedy mayhem. This awesome thriller, which was surprisingly well-received by viewers, follows Ava and Nathan (that married couple) and what unfolds when they unexpectedly discover the identity of the infamous West Side Ripper; unexpectedly deciding to not call the police. Instead, they’re plotting to turn this killer into their own podcast’s star – something totally insane! A very bizarre choice that would come with many additional surprises.

Season 1 ended with those crazy plans blowing up in their faces. Their true-crime empire got completely demolished online after critics slammed them for giving a serial killer a platform; leading to the ripper taking their content into his own hands; which will likely be important and extremely consequential for future storytelling moments in Season 2.

The wait is almost over. Season 2 premieres on November 21, 2024, and is going to be quite intense and surprisingly dramatic based upon that very detailed trailer already released. The anticipation has certainly risen given that this is well over a year after that renewal and it was nearly a year and a half after the first season ended! A really long delay between production periods.

The main stars are confirmed to return, obviously: Kaley Cuoco as Ava and Chris Messina as Nathan.  Joining them? Tom Bateman (as the hilariously twisted Matt/West Side Killer) and Liana Liberato (as Ava's sister, Tory). Aaron Staton (Simon) is also coming back which could potentially generate many unexpected and exciting conflicts.

The trailer is already out; it gives several glimpses into season 2; adding those many intriguing scenes where we see those key characters burying a body— the West Side Ripper(Matt) likely. This does make some viewers curious to find out exactly what is happening and could even cause a lot more engagement due to this incredibly simple setup of what viewers see before that final trailer reveals a much, much greater mystery, that might even surprise audience members after all the reveals that transpired in Season 1!  And remember what had happened from that very last episode, folks.  Season 2 will add some more huge names too! A whole bunch of surprises awaits.

Season 2 starts from this huge cliffhanger, folks!  The first concern? Whether Ava and Nathan will get caught; they did bury the body of Ruby(the West Side Ripper's previous victim)! And the totally unexpected turn; this shocking relationship! Ava's sister, Tory is dating Matt. She doesn't know about the killing yet. However, it will likely be addressed somehow. We are going to see Ava deal with being a parent!  That's even more to handle when you’re hiding that fact that you are now a full-on accomplice to murder. This entire setup presents itself brilliantly!

Another hugely important moment involves Matt's new idea–he's creating a podcast with several other serial killers. This will absolutely become huge, given this added context! How does that impact things? It makes everything far, far more problematic for Ava and Nathan!
