Agatha Harkness: The MCU's New Thanos – A Love Story With Death?
Thanos is Dead (Mostly…) But Could Agatha Be the MCU's Next Big Bad?
Thanos is gone (mostly, that pesky multiverse!). He might’ve been defeated five years ago, but those effects of his infamous Snap are still causing huge issues in the MCU! The Marvels trailer even uses a Thanos soundbite – so the Mad Titan still looms large; however the overall narrative has shifted; hinting toward an age post-Thanos! With Doctor Doom poised to take center stage as a new arch-villain – and way more dangerous threats coming, could we possibly have someone taking up Thanos's role? Let’s explore what might be going on with these ongoing MCU releases! This shows there’s more, way, way more!
Enter Agatha Harkness! This show is focusing on that super-powerful magical side of the MCU (with Wanda Maximoff and Doctor Strange’s importance growing with each release). This makes perfect sense, because Agatha is also very interested in those same plots. And as viewers might recognize – the ongoing Agatha All Along show has already established Mephisto's presence– an insanely powerful being– as that truly ultimate villain.
Thanos's Original Plan: Wooing Lady Death
We saw Thanos’s first appearance, albeit fleeting, in the Avengers post-credits scene after those major events that unfolded. His goals for taking over the universe remained unclear then. But Thanos’s assistant, The Other, let slip his reasons in that short yet key dialogue: Challenging the Avengers is to court Death (as noted in The Avengers). Thanos revealed himself with a totally creepy smile – hinting at that main desire which involved obtaining immense power to completely woo Lady Death, an important element in that larger lore.
The entire Infinity Saga didn't fully explain that— making Thanos more of a sympathetic villain compared to what happened in that longer Marvel comic continuity where Lady Death's importance remained crucial.
Agatha and a Green Witch Named Death? That Doesn't Sound Too Unusual
Now, Lady Death is almost certainly showing up in the ongoing Agatha All Along show. She hasn’t been part of previous releases but Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), this mysterious figure–might just be Death. There’s really no reason to dispute this, because she might be Death!
- That cryptic behaviour hints at a powerful being. Her relationship with Agatha, could mean that Agatha is the source of much suffering – perhaps indirectly impacting a significant portion of death within this ongoing universe that hasn’t quite shown how wide the effects really are yet!
- That intimate encounter after those intense trials with Agatha’s son? That cemented her true importance within the ongoing universe, not necessarily confirming who Rio is precisely. It only confirms her immense power, leaving some plot holes and unanswered questions regarding her identity; this doesn't make the entire hypothesis inherently bad, it adds to intrigue and anticipation for further reveals, something that most fans and viewers appreciate and eagerly await!
Some people even think she's actually Blackheart—Mephisto’s son – that’s not necessarily impossible! However, it remains more likely to be Death given her powers and that crucial and intense relationship with Agatha, even further indicating a long and surprisingly detailed personal relationship.
Agatha as Thanos' Replacement?
That hinted-at romantic relationship between Agatha and Rio (first hinted in the first episode; solidified in episode 4), changes many assumptions previously made regarding those involved. It could completely position Agatha as Death’s new interest – just like Thanos!
But that's a really interesting choice, showing that making Agatha into this romantic foil rather than simply using Thanos, as in the earlier stories. This might’ve seemed an unexpected but genius choice. It works better in this specific context compared to that other story because Agatha's connection with Death could be far more nuanced— making it much more emotionally rich and complicated!
Conclusion: Death, Romance, and a New Era in the MCU
The potential introduction of Lady Death into this age of the MCU creates lots of creative opportunities – one seemingly involving a brand-new potential main antagonist for this series! This choice to potentially establish Agatha in that particular storyline which involves that incredibly intense romance with Death; in addition to using Mephisto shows a lot of creative depth – that isn’t often demonstrated very often – this could really become a standout storyline because of those very deliberate choices!
These kinds of unexpected plot elements add amazing twists for this specific story arc; potentially creating this amazingly suspenseful romantic narrative within a mystical horror series! If you love Agatha, that kind of plotline creates incredible potential and makes the wait until the finale even more compelling.
