ACOTAR Hulu Adaptation: Fixing Mr. Archeron's Broken Redemption Arc

A Court of Thorns and Roses: Hulu's Show MUST Fix This Weird character arc!

Mr. Archeron's Seriously Flawed Redemption Arc: Why Hulu Needs to Fix It!

Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses books are packed with amazing characters – flawed, complex individuals with killer backstories.  Maas excels at making even villains relatable and sympathetic, especially using these amazing insights to the reader concerning those aspects hidden deep within her characters. However, one seriously bizarre arc in A Court of Wings and Ruin involves Mr. Archeron, the father of Feyre, Nesta, and Elain. His limited appearance and somewhat sudden redemption create some serious issues with that story arc which many fans want changed; completely undercutting the narrative's potential power!

The entire storyline is really problematic and has issues on various levels! We never really get enough details; the reasons for his neglect, for his reappearance as some sudden heroic figure and more, and is the very thing that severely weakens those other plot points and makes many of his character flaws ultimately under-emphasized, causing issues on all levels – and not simply limited to narrative flaws, but creating even those negative issues which could completely break immersion for many readers and ultimately affect viewers!

Mr. Archeron's arc in the ACOTAR books is wildly inconsistent, appearing from absolutely nowhere, folks! He's this seriously flawed figure – neglectful and essentially useless – who is suddenly some self-sacrificial hero? That's completely jarring and undermines his significance on so many levels! Maas likely hoped that his sudden appearance would deliver an emotional punch. But since Mr. Archeron was underdeveloped throughout most of the narrative – his arrival to Prythian felt less impactful than anticipated.

The revelation was undoubtedly emotionally moving. This dramatic event, revealed to the readers at the key moment near the climax of the entire series in A Court of Wings and Ruin.  That reveal, "He told me that he's got three daughters who live here. And that he failed them for many years. But he would not fail them this time," does evoke serious emotions! The problem? There wasn’t enough preceding work to make it really impactful.

Many plot elements get glossed over or completely dropped– how did this previously bankrupt father obtain resources? Where did he learn about Prythian? How did this man acquire the necessary ships required for an enormously large travel venture like the one that involves the entire storyline’s climax?! All this adds another level of disbelief to what is already completely contrived.  There was never sufficient justification or rationale behind how exactly the change from an abusive father to a selfless, courageous hero transpires. The lack of context and rationale severely weakens any connection!

Fixing Mr. Archeron in Hulu’s ACOTAR Adaptation

Hulu's ACOTAR show must fix Mr. Archeron! It needs to completely revitalize that character; he needs fleshing out – far earlier in the series – showcasing details and those kinds of moments of selflessness never shown before and really should be incorporated to provide better insights that really highlight a different side of this important family member. More crucial details need added– those key story moments would better explain his backstory; that complex journey and struggles to completely show those points that really demonstrate empathy for Mr. Archeron.

Showing those scenes involving Mr. Archeron's business trips – mentioned briefly, these kinds of brief hints regarding business, work or travel plans and his past as a merchant which remain unexplored is a fantastic starting point which can easily give additional development that shows growth and positive traits never adequately emphasized and needs more serious explanation. His character growth would ultimately affect how people regard Mr. Archeron's later acts of selflessness. Showing the reasons behind his actions could even be easily explained to viewers. Adding his emotional and familial growth might resolve much of the concerns, making those narrative changes less questionable!

More importantly; allowing viewers greater insight into Mr. Archeron’s motivations and decisions through the eyes of Feyre, Nesta, and Elain could totally add tons of perspective; demonstrating all the possible challenges these family members encounter; thereby reinforcing these feelings surrounding paternal neglect and loss and emphasizing why the climax could deliver such powerful results when he finally shows genuine and long-awaited selflessness for them all. The show could totally transform the way readers and audiences perceive Mr. Archeron by demonstrating these actions through various family members; adding those little touches that the book lacks.

Conclusion:  Hulu’s ACOTAR Must Show—Not Tell

Mr. Archeron in the books falls short. That dramatic death doesn't work well because we barely knew him!  Hulu's ACOTAR adaptation can fix this—by revealing details early. Instead of simply telling us who this family member is – viewers will understand that profound relationship – thereby showcasing his complicated journey which ultimately highlights that change. Show his efforts. Show his regrets. The end result would be those strong feelings which creates that unforgettable emotional reaction; generating those profoundly empathetic reactions.

Showing rather than telling will resolve much of the earlier flaws surrounding his initial presence and subsequent death, resulting in a very improved and more impactful character that would justify that extremely climactic moment of sacrifice from this character! Those crucial moments shown rather than simply telling create that important relationship between those audiences and a character who ultimately needs it!
