The hilarious sitcom Abbott Elementary is back for season 4, and while the relationship between Janine and Gregory is a major focus, the premiere episode, "Back to School," also highlighted a surprising character arc for another beloved character!
Janine and Gregory's Relationship
Season 4 kicks off with Janine and Gregory finally going public with their romance! But it wasn't just the happy couple stealing the spotlight; a very underrated character got a chance to shine. This was also one that may have surprised viewers, which has only grown the fan base even more.
Ava's Surprising Support
Remember Principal Ava? In past seasons, she's often been portrayed as being not so nice to Janine, showing her dislike, even getting a little competitive with Gregory. There were many fans who were worried. Especially since they also brought back Warren, HR rep, from season 3.
The premiere made everyone do a double-take and the producers were truly thinking out of the box!
- Viewers thought that Ava might try to stop Janine and Gregory from being together!
- This also had to do with her disliking Janine
- Or wanting Gregory for herself.
But get this! Once Janine and Gregory were upfront about their relationship, Ava showed everyone a whole new side! Ava only cared if this affected HR, which showed a new, unexpected maturity!
Ava's Growth
Some fans worried that this shift in Ava's behavior might take away some of the hilarious moments! Fortunately, the show's creators did an amazing job of making sure viewers see the older side that they know and love. Ava was still delightfully corrupt in the same hilarious way, happily taking bribes and reminding us she's not changed too much!
This balance really makes the change super realistic. She may have supported Janine and Gregory, in this show's story but that doesn't change everything that was known and loved about her character. Viewers feel even more fulfilled as they are watching these beloved, complex, hilarious, yet realistic and authentically wonderful characters who have only developed even better character traits that people enjoy in this wonderful, entertaining and relatable ABC comedy.
