Review of Season 4 Episode 7: A Stakes-Raising Finale Setup
Sometimes The Boys Season 4 felt flat. But episode 7 at last gave the show some much-needed vitality. The penultimate episode sees the titular team reach their lowest point yet, leaving The Seven and Vought in a precarious state heading into the season finale along with their corporate structure.
Perhaps homelander's plan will work.
Homelander's crisis persisted all through the season, but generally his plans were working out. He collaborated with the smartest person on the planet, Sister Sage, to create a strategy for world rule. But Homelander's inclination toward caving in to his darkest impulses has caused him to desert Sage in favor of Firecracker, a Supe fixated on pleasing him. Homelander's plan might thus depend more on brute force than on shrewd strategy.
Homelander's power makes him the mightiest Supe; but, his lack of strategic intelligence—something he lacked with Sage—may prove to be negative. Though the exact goal is unknown, Sage tells the three Supes she knew A-Train was the leak all along and his leak was deliberate. With season 5 The Boys' last, anything could happen and Homelander is probably going to unleash his full might with little to restrain him.
Not a good indicator of his takeover strategy, homelander now finds himself surrounded by yes-men. He is basically back where he began Season 4, only this time he is more enraged than ever. The Boys seem to have as a recurring motif: Homelander sets out a journey across every season and emerges as a scarier and more potent character than before. Still, it looks to have worked this time.
The takeover story increases the consequences for Homelander's actions, and Antony Starr keeps giving an amazing performance. This is a good indication for the finale since he transcends the script and presents a quite horrific character.
Episode 7 sets up a strong ending for Season 4 The Boys.
Season 4 of The Boys has shown symptoms of tiredness. Although the social commentary is prescient, it has grown monotonous and the show's shock value has either fallen short of past seasons or has been shockingly tone-deaf (Hughie's sexual torture, for instance). Though it sets up a finale that might change everything, Episode 7 does not fix all these flaws.
Homelander has sent The Deep and Black Noir to target Butcher and Annie; the gloves are off. Sister Sage was let go after A-Train turned out as the leak. Annie has been abducted apparently in line with the January 6 agenda. This episode gives The Boys some life at last in a season that has felt motionless at times.
The Boy Series Review
Eric Kripke developed a superhero/dark comedy satire series based on the same-named comic book series. It is set in a "what-if" universe in which face little consequences for actions and superheroes are revered as gods and celebrities. To reveal them for what they really are, a group of vigilantes under the vengeance-obsessed Billy Butcher opposes these "heroes".
