Superman & Lois Season 4 Review: Final Season Soars and Stumbles

Get ready for the final season of Superman & Lois!

This popular DC series, starring Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, is coming to a close on The CW. But don't worry! It looks like this show, planned for seven seasons, is giving fans the right send-off.

The Final Season of Superman and Lois

While initially planned to go on for a longer run, Superman & Lois will conclude with Season 4, a fact tied to several large factors: shifts in network programming from The CW and changes within DC Studios, as well as the planned appearance of a new Superman (played by David Corenswet) on the big screen next year. This is a fantastic finale that continues right after where season 3 left off with Superman and Doomsday about to go head to head!

If you loved the emotional ride of season 3, especially Lois' battle with cancer. Get ready! Season 4 hits hard, highlighting Hoechlin's and Tulloch's stellar performance. These two actors, known in the Arrowverse, took Superman & Lois to the next level with an exceptional approach to these characters.

Action scenes in season 4 are breathtaking. But the heart of this season rests with the family. They face immense challenges but viewers are able to connect with the true, heart-wrenching impact!

For those that may be curious about a standout, Michael Cudlitz's portrayal of Lex Luthor really shines, beginning from his debut in season 3. He quickly made Lex Luthor, one of the DC Universe's greatest villains, even more unforgettable and is something not to be missed in Superman & Lois season 4. His terrifying presence raises the tension throughout these episodes!

The Kent Sons

Budget cuts sadly affected the show with 7 actors being let go, though there's still plenty of epic moments! Jonathan Kent, now played by Michael Bishop, after a recast for season 4 is given a fantastic new direction, keeping this family-driven approach the key feature. Meanwhile, his brother, Jordan (played by Alex Garfin), continues his journey, putting to the test all the years of hard work honing his special skills.

Hoechlin and Tulloch's Super Performance

Hoechlin and Tulloch really captured the hearts of viewers since season 1. Their phenomenal chemistry creates moments filled with tenderness and joy. We see Hoechlin's ability to portray a confident Superman with his gentle, approachable, and caring side. The same incredible work is put forth by Tulloch's incredible acting, leaving no room for doubt that Lois is more than a superhero wife. This new character brings Lois into the heart of the story in season 4 with many critical plot points focused on her strengths. That helps add another layer of powerful emotional moments to enjoy. However, there are things this finale misses.

Missing Characters

Budget cuts reduced season 4 to only 10 episodes, meaning this special series can't bring everything the previous seasons have. And sadly, viewers won't get a full representation of certain fan favorite Smallville residents! There is less focus and screen time to give us full storylines and that leaves us wanting more. Hopefully there is another chance to explore other important stories down the line! That may not even include more Superman & Lois shows or appearances on television!

A Must-Watch Finale

Despite some issues, Superman & Lois season 4's compelling family drama, excellent performances and intense action scenes leave a lasting impression. The show is already a success story but will bring a truly memorable finale with intense emotions for both the audience and characters! Get ready for the premiere, which began with a double episode premiere on October 7th, 2024.
