The cast of “Severance” is full of talented actors which include not only veterans of the screen but new actors with breakout performances. The group work with many complex challenges within a psychological thriller set inside the work environment that will change what it means to work at Lumon Industries.
Adam Scott’s role as Mark has had critical praise with many mentions of the complexities of him having a dual performance. The character is a team leader at Lumon Industries with both Innie and Outie versions, The role had also been discussed as one where it initially the production had issues being ok with Scott for this position but he was very specific about who he wanted to play this specific character.
Britt Lower plays Helly R., and receives high praise for portraying both her Innie and Outie roles with the dual life becoming a central theme in the series. With subtle nuances between both sides she creates a great separation yet equal understanding of the two halves of the same whole. This is what many say make this role her break out one.
John Turturro a veteran actor plays Irving B whose Innie persona is reserved and routine oriented but the character of the Outie is one where new hidden details begin to come to light in Season 2 . The complicated dynamics with his love interest provide intense and subtle hints of drama throughout the series which made a number of his scenes highly praised.
Dylan is presented as somewhat of a reluctant office worker. However in season 2 new layers will be revealed about his “Outie” self which challenges both dynamics and his role in what happens at Lumon. Fans have also expressed great intrigue in his complicated home life and the many new changes he had to adapt too.
The support cast also have important roles with notable performances of Tramell Tillman as Mr. Milchick who shows both unsettling and charming undertones. Also Patricia Arquette plays the mysterious Ms Cobel.
Patricia Arquette known for a variety of performances was cast as the mysterious boss Harmony Cobel who’s control is explored further through the show. With hints about a deeper background to her and Lumon it makes her more interesting as all pieces are not readily made aware.
Tillman takes on a complex role of both sinister and friendly boss Mr Milchick with an added layer of middle management issues added to this season. As the show moves forward they try to show more of his view and give an unusual viewpoint of the hierarchy with him in the middle of issues both above and below his placement.
Season 2 includes a list of new notable actors from both film and TV such as Sarah Bock playing a new manager Miss Huang as a notable new player in the mix along with additions that can change what the audience knows about what is really taking place within the Lumon offices. Merritt Wever is among these great additions.
All of the cast members bring unique dynamics with intense dual performances while having many different interactions with their on screen colleagues. There has been a strong emphasis to show unique styles both within the Lumon office settings and real world connections the group may make as time moves forward. It also is a mix between both newer and older actors creating new layers.
As all core characters play Innie and Outie roles it provides a complex look into human nature. They provide a performance that changes depending on their unique view at any given moment by making a complex view into human dual nature using both the same actors to make this all seem cohesive. The two roles are often polar opposites of each other.
The performances in Severance are consistently highly praised which bring a combination of humor suspense along with emotional themes to create intrigue. All elements from those in lead roles to guest members bring to light what unique stories this platform has to offer as it uses strong writing and quality actors.
