Matt Smith describes the advice previous Doctor Who actor David Tennant gave him upon assuming the role. In the popular BBC series, Tennant was the Tenth Doctor; Smith followed as the Eleventh Doctor. Tennant returned briefly to Doctor Who before Ncuti Gatwa became the Fourteenth Doctor. Currently showing episodes every week, Gatwa is performing the Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who season 14.
In a Variety interview, Smith shares the advise Tennant gave him upon the Doctor Who stars changing positions. Tennant advised learning his lines on Sunday, the weekend before a full week of shooting, according to Smith. The Eleventh Doctor actor then went on to explain why the line learning of Doctor Who was such a "voracious" endeavour.
In Doctor Who, Tennant's advise was really effective. On film as the Time Lord, Smith is a force to be reckoned with. He offers more vitality than almost any other actor who has portrayed The Doctor in any Doctor Who season because of his almost flawless delivery of difficult scientific fiction ideas.
