Disclaimer Review: Cate Blanchett's Apple TV+ Thriller - A Must-Watch?

Apple TV+ is bringing a new thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! Disclaimer, a 7-episode miniseries, premieres on October 11th, 2024. This series looks to deliver thrills with an intriguing plot, incredible acting talent and a truly unique storytelling style!

A Slow-Burn Thriller

The story is told through multiple viewpoints, creating a mysterious experience for viewers who are constantly kept guessing and questioning just what is going on!

At its heart, this story is all about how easily narratives can be used to manipulate us, but it shows this really well and shows how well that really affects cinema itself.

One of the key lines that begins this special miniseries brings to the viewers what to expect and that's a recommendation- “Beware of narrative and form. Their power can bring us closer to the truth, but they can also be a weapon with a great power to manipulate.” The protagonist, a journalist called Catherine Ravenscroft (played by Cate Blanchett), receives a book and knows what that means, for this movie!

Multiple Narratives

The show’s genius really shows in its story-telling. It goes far beyond that initial “warning.”. It's not just the protagonist's story! This is truly multiple stories weaved together as the show goes on.

  • We get a look into Catherine's world, a mysterious tale with an anonymous narrator, using a second-person narration!
  • A peek into Catherine’s family life; this means her husband Robert ( Sacha Baron Cohen ) and son Nicholas ( Kodi Smit-McPhee ) are both important!
  • Then there’s the story of a recently retired teacher Stephen Brigstocke (played by Kevin Kline)! What is compelling, he narrates himself and appears as a central force with his revenge plot as this unfolds!
  • Lastly, a journey through Italy with Jonathan ( Louis Partridge). There is no narration. What the show shows, instead are some compelling visuals that deliver so much depth, creating its own compelling way to reveal what happens through compelling visuals and images. This adds another layer!

This series' creativity truly makes a compelling, memorable piece.

This truly compelling story is just as good with its pacing. The Apple TV+ decision to release some episodes as one batch will mean some changes, however, fans will want more and may end up on the edge of their seats for this entire miniseries.
