What We Do In The Shadows Season 6: Colin Robinson's Power Gets Weird!
What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 is here, and things are getting wild for those Staten Island vampires! With familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillen) out of the picture and the return of the totally irritating Jerry (Mike O'Brien), the roommates face major changes. And it affects our favorite boring energy vampire, Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch)! Screen Rant spoke with Proksch recently; he discusses those unexpected changes impacting Colin's power!
Season 6 is the final season; showing us those final events and resolutions that involve those classic characters within this amazingly silly universe! This hilarious mockumentary show, based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's 2014 movie, shows four vampires who live together, struggling with their unique problems involving this incredibly boring energy-draining vampire!
Proksch shared some juicy details regarding Colin's storyline. That totally obnoxious Jerry causes immense conflict within the vampire household. And guess what that leads to? That conflict-fueled strife generates intense amounts of negative energy. And that energy causes a huge side effect for Colin– weight gain! And that leads to him completely overfeeding! This is great!
Here's what Proksch shared with us: “Well, luckily, the return of Jerry the vampire causes a lot of strife amongst the other vampires, so I have a kind of weight gain issue because of that strife.”
That statement leads to a far more profound question! Proksch is legitimately wondering how Colin's energy absorption is affected! He’s considering whether his feelings affect how much energy Colin absorbs and even suggesting there’s an inherent connection that should be addressed in some specific ways that only later reveals.
Previous seasons already teased various details; demonstrating aspects related to his powers and those unexpected abilities and their relationship to various situations! However, this really is the first time his inner state—his own emotional experience — was examined. This is very unique!
His comments suggest there's an unexplored element – whether Colin absorbs negative energy aimed at him. Does his own emotional state have an influence? That could completely rewrite our understanding of his abilities. What's amazing here is this inherent mystery: we only see the immediate effects for the audience member; this lack of concrete explanation regarding what happens adds even more layers to this intriguing narrative. We’re also teased later on concerning those conflicts between various characters which become significantly amplified.
Jerry’s arrival in this latest season isn’t entirely unexpected. His presence creates a cascade of problems; most importantly his negative criticisms targeting all the vampire roommates; most crucially; Jerry doesn’t seem to even acknowledge the very presence of Colin Robinson at any time throughout his reintroduction – an utterly devastating realization for Colin! He also struggles because Guillermo leaving might result in eviction.
Proksch’s hints that Colin's feeling hurt and dissatisfied after Jerry returned really sets that storyline, preparing us for additional clashes and new conflicts yet to come. What kind of consequences happen next is what most audience members would want to know, particularly concerning that uncertain, possibly precarious and incredibly threatening possibility of eviction! This adds some truly intriguing, and humorous elements concerning how the various plot arcs will interconnect, affecting our beloved energy vampire character.
Colin Robinson is hilariously mundane; and his ability to seriously take over his super-powered comrades should be concerning to every character in the show! His mysterious nature–a thing continuously revealed across various episodes throughout various seasons- is also what made his appearance as a vampire even more mysterious. We’re continuously getting unexpected answers to old questions, those questions around what his capabilities really mean and it also adds a level of intrigue, because his specific biology constantly evolves!
The final season continues this mysterious arc and there’s always that uncertainty! Proksch's comments hint that more surprises—and conflicts—await before that ending! Will those last episodes really explore that possible relationship between those internal conflicts and Colin's powers? Or are we going to leave it to fan theories only?
