Tomb Raider TV Series: Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Prime Video Reboot - Release Date & More

Get ready for another big adventure starring the iconic Lara Croft! Amazon is hard at work developing a new Tomb Raider series and fans are excited! The Tomb Raider franchise is getting a reboot. After Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander took on the role in movies, the newest adaptation is going to be on television! This was first announced in early 2023!

The big news is that Phœbe Waller-Bridge (the genius behind Fleabag) is behind the scenes and will bring her talents and special touch as writer and executive producer. This amazing series will have its home on Prime Video. While they're hard at work, even bringing the upcoming movie into play. Amazon continues to keep things tight lipped!

Amazon Studios Gives An Update:

Recently, Jennifer Salke, who heads up Amazon MGM Studios gave us an interesting tidbit, something many are waiting for! It looks like the show's development is still firmly on track, Waller-Bridge is "well into it" according to Salke, who added even more excitement! This will probably become a big hit, given the enormous fan base around the world. However, production might be delayed a bit longer and this is probably going to put a pause on an earlier proposed start date of early 2025 that was brought up by Vernon Sanders (the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios.)

Delays And The Future:

It appears the plans for Tomb Raider, a deal struck back in 2019, which got re-upped in 2022, got delayed! Waller-Bridge is an extremely popular director and writer so it shouldn't come as a surprise there may have been other work involved.

The most popular reason? This came out after Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and all of its post-production work as well as marketing. While it made nearly $384 Million at the box office, which could be a huge success. What was concerning was its budget, that ranged between $295-$387 Million meaning it did not perform as well and likely won't be getting a sequel.

Given the circumstances, this frees up Waller-Bridge's time so fans don't need to hold their breath for that long! It looks like things may actually go much quicker from now!

Amazon's Big Plans

Even though there's this interesting turn of events. It seems there are huge plans to give us more Tomb Raider!

It’s been confirmed the production remains a high priority for Amazon, with their efforts extending to an interconnected universe featuring Lara Croft! That will likely expand. They want to connect this new movie series with the already established games, through Crystal Dynamics.

But for fans and the movie producers, it looks like this television show might just come first! And likely kick off the entire series!
