Tim Allen & Seann William Scott's 'Shifting Gears': ABC's Next Big Sitcom?

Shifting Gears: American Pie Star Seann William Scott Joins Tim Allen's New ABC sitcom!

Tim Allen's Back! And He's Bringing a Familiar Face to ABC

Get ready for some laughs! Tim Allen is returning to sitcoms after a break since 2021 with a brand-new ABC comedy, Shifting Gears.  This isn't just any sitcom. It's an all-new car restoration comedy that takes Tim Allen into yet another surprising adventure in sitcomland; combining this famous comedic style that only he could truly provide!

Allen plays Matt, a stubborn widower running a classic car shop. His estranged daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), and her kids move in, forcing them to fix their broken family ties, while trying to also make sure that the family business continues; the entire premise brings a classic sitcom-style family situation which should easily draw in those viewers.

And now for the big news: Seann William Scott (of American Pie fame!) joins as a series regular, playing Gabriel, a “family friend of Matt and Riley who works at Matt's shop.” This exciting development presents the chance for major improvement over and above those existing characters; this addition of yet another iconic and beloved actor to the main cast completely boosts this sitcom’s chance of appeal for many older viewers, and the inclusion is largely driven by strategic needs based on how many fans the older American Pie movies attracted; this generation might actually have a greater number of fans!

Scott’s inclusion could be just the boost Shifting Gears needs! Allen’s already a comedic heavyweight, but Scott's experience might totally add some spice; creating unexpected reactions from those already expecting something only produced with Tim Allen as the central character; providing a unique flavor not previously considered.

The specific role is largely vague, but we know that the characters will have some time on screen, given their working arrangement. And that could provide great romantic storylines, even those conflict-ridden situations when two work together.  This unique situation will combine Allen’s “straight man” dynamic with Scott's more youthful energy – which may work either greatly well, or incredibly badly; which would create plenty of new situations and possible unexpected conflict for both the viewers and the cast to navigate through.

This show’s really huge for Scott! This will be his third starring role (Welcome to Flatch and Lethal Weapon season 3) – yet this show represents his biggest opportunity to star within primetime television. It might relaunch him as a big sitcom star.  This represents his full leap into those bigger television prime-time opportunities, which may even exceed his existing achievements and fame in movie productions; especially as sitcoms typically last longer and have the potential to engage the public's attention even longer and to a wider, constantly changing group of viewers. Given that Allen already presents a strong audience for himself; the introduction of Scott should boost viewership dramatically; depending of course if that much-anticipated chemistry already anticipated will deliver in the long-term.  This sitcom could either skyrocket, or flame out. It depends entirely upon production, plot direction and overall quality!

Shifting Gears already looks promising; this particular casting is already highly praised and shows promising signals which demonstrates some critical success prior to its even airing on TV! Combining those powerhouse names like Tim Allen and Seann William Scott; a pairing with the chance of really becoming successful or at the least, creating enough interest for those people wanting to discover yet another unique opportunity to see those older, long-time favorites together and enjoying themselves through a relatively unexplored storytelling theme – that of a classic car shop! Given the success that older sitcoms had already garnered; and how often those viewers are easily targeted due to nostalgia and past experiences with older sitcom shows; this sitcom looks really, really fun and the promise made might come to fruition.
