HBO Max is bringing us a hilarious new series called The Franchise, a superhero satire that's already getting a lot of buzz!
MCU Villains in The Franchise
This show cleverly uses two actors who've been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), making the satire even funnier! The Franchise is all about making fun of big-budget superhero movies. It follows the crazy journey of a film crew shooting a superhero flick called "Tecto: Eye of the Storm."
The whole production is a comedic mess because of all the different people involved, along with those demanding studio reps, but that's the joke and fans seem to get it.
Richard E. Grant's Loki Analog
Richard E. Grant plays Peter, a loudmouth, overconfident actor in The Franchise. It's super funny, given that Grant already played a thoughtful, complex version of Loki in the MCU. Peter's character highlights some of the issues behind these blockbuster films with huge-scale production that only serve to really demonstrate just what kind of comedic ability these shows really offer. In the episode, "Scene 31A: Tecto Meets Eye," the viewers are shown how goofy it all is! Grant makes viewers consider what it means to make such movies that sometimes get way too caught up in these production moments and lose some of that emotional feeling and compelling story. Grant's experience in Loki gives The Franchise a new spin!
Daniel Brühl's Artistic Director
Daniel Brühl shines as Eric, the artsy-fartsy but clueless director! His character is one of the more cutting satire moments as viewers get a real feeling for why these big blockbusters can seem really cheesy.
It's a big hit! There's so many comedic parts in this special superhero satire, viewers see Brühl's skill and how they are able to bring characters who are so much more than just actors, highlighting their roles in many other projects as they play some of these key roles.
- Brühl has a lot of experience bringing dramatic villains to life.
- In Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier he gives such thoughtful, amazing performances!
In The Franchise his character becomes comedic and makes audiences think twice about why this satire is so popular, that viewers laugh at it because it's true and relatable to the kinds of behind-the-scenes drama that really make a story worth sharing!
The Franchise Cast
You know how awesome the talent is going to be if it features these MCU alums? To bring viewers into the story of making these types of films and to highlight all those moments that are behind-the-scenes in an amazing superhero project, you need talent and an expert way of directing. But what might get some laughs is The Franchise really seems to pull out every laugh out there!
