The Chosen Spinoffs & New Seasons: A Biblical Universe Expands!

The Chosen Universe Expands: All Upcoming Shows and spinoffs!

The Chosen's Massive Success Fuels a Biblical Shared Universe!

The Chosen, that insanely popular Christian historical drama from Angel Studios (which launched in 2017), is getting even bigger! Its massive success has spurred a whole bunch of spinoffs and new series.  Typically, a successful show gets one spinoff. But The Chosen? It's got five announced at once, along with more seasons still on the way for the original series!

Dallas Jenkins (creator, director, and co-writer) is forming 5&2 Studios.  This new production company will oversee all those new shows— focusing on “Bible-inspired stories…told through uniquely human and authentic storytelling,” according to Variety.  This shift from Angel Studios (they lost the rights mid-2024) means those new seasons and spinoffs are all under 5&2 Studios' umbrella. And for anyone wondering what's happening after season 4, expect those plans to proceed completely unimpeded; further demonstrating that these productions have become significantly more prominent in entertainment.

The Chosen: What to Expect From the Upcoming Seasons

The Chosen Season 5: A Journey Through Holy Week

The original show is returning! Season 5's production wrapped in July 2024, with a planned spring 2025 release (the exact date is still TBA).  Expect a star-studded cast return (including Jonathan Roumie as Jesus!). This season dives deep into Holy Week—from Palm Sunday to Judas' betrayal, covering other elements which really show how significant these periods truly are and show additional drama never portrayed in that exact capacity.  Dallas Jenkins mentioned in a Catholic News Agency interview the intense emotions. He emphasized, "[Season 5] is sad… heartbreaking. We know we are getting closer to the cross.  We'll see iconic moments…and draw closer to Jesus."

The great news is; that season 5 isn't even the end, there’s two additional seasons– that is; seven in total for this incredibly popular series.  Season 6 covers the CrucifixionSeason 7, the Resurrection.  That seven-season plan was what Jenkins intended originally. Yet his work continues far beyond that original goal. Even after all this has concluded; those stories aren’t just ending for this project.

The Chosen Spinoffs: A New Era in Biblical Storytelling

The Chosen Adventures (2025): An Animated Adventure

Prepare for The Chosen Adventures— the first Chosen spinoff!  This animated series is a younger, friendlier version of that entire original show; but uses those same stories and many familiar elements for those viewers already familiar with the work, but it changes the perspective completely, using that imaginative setting.   While Jesus does appear (Jonathan Roumie returns!), the show focuses on a nine-year-old named Abby (alongside Joshua) from Capernaum—living in that world depicted. There will also be notable guest stars, which is important because their individual work adds even greater layers of storytelling for the fanbase, including Paul Walter HauserYvonne Orji, and Jordin Sparks.

Jenkins explained this in Variety:  “We can tell Jesus' story through the eyes of children. We’re not expanding in that original series but that animation format…is witty and fun, and appealing to adults. This doesn’t just need to work – it really needs to stand out!”   That goal suggests even further expansion in those new storytelling methods!

The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls (TBA): A Survivalist Adventure!

Another crazy turn of events? A reality series—The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls! Yes, that Bear Grylls! Expect survival challenges similar to his prior projects—yet this specific production features Dallas Jenkins and might potentially involve other main cast members. The plan’s for six episodes.  Jenkins had this to say about his unexpected project with Bear Grylls: “This is the first of multiple partnerships…and for me…an indoorsman…I'm scared about the challenges, but willing to take one for the team!”

Untitled Moses Spinoff (2028+): A Three-Season Epic!

Three spinoffs—live action! The first revolves around Moses (who isn’t in the main show). This is an enormous plan. This likely won't be out until 2028 or later, as production cycles are relatively long. The storyline is going to focus around his entire life which Jenkins wants to produce across three seasons (8-10 episodes per season).   He mentions these specific eras: "Escape from Egypt, Parting of the Red Sea, and settling in the Promised Land.”

Untitled Joseph Spinoff (TBA): A Miniseries Approach

Another live-action series; it covers JosephJenkins says this is an easily manageable miniseries which is surprisingly fitting for that shorter storyline. Only one season which will likely involve only eight episodes. That shows some level of intent in reducing those kinds of prolonged production times. That's likely going to increase future development in more aspects beyond the main shows themselves, potentially allowing even further expansion outside the already expanding universe of shows! Expect this shorter storyline to also generate great possibilities!

The Acts of the Apostles (TBA): A Direct Sequel!

Last but certainly not least!  This project is intended as the finale; intended to act as a direct sequel; using that amazing ending from the original series’ main story arc: This completely takes everything and expands this universe directly by focusing on that incredibly important storyline surrounding that narrative and uses these same characters.  It's based on the Book of Acts, exploring the original followers after Jesus' Resurrection, creating and showcasing their work in forming the Christian Church.

Conclusion: A Multi-Faceted Expansion Across All Production Methods!

The Chosen universe is absolutely exploding! Seven seasons for that main series? That is absolutely fantastic, and it isn't stopping there. Five spinoffs; several using varied production methods such as animation or unscripted reality shows showcase great possibilities which have only recently started in entertainment – such varied options greatly increase this story’s reach and might possibly introduce new viewers who might otherwise have remained outside the show's target demographic, greatly impacting this production's success over a longer time frame and demonstrating that new creative approaches must always be considered for achieving those creative results. Expect the success of The Chosen to last for a while – its future certainly seems exceptionally bright!
