Zero terminator: An animated trip to stop Judgement Day
An adult animated series spanning the classic science fiction universe of the Terminator franchise, Terminal Zero will be released by Netflix. The idea of the show is on a war started by artificial intelligence (AI) and emphasizes on a mission to stop the catastrophic event known as Judgement Day.
A Journey Through Time
Following a human sent back in time to protect Malcolm Lee, a scientist engaged in the creation of a ground-breaking artificial intelligence system, Terminator Zero swings between the years 2022 and 1997. Malcolm gasping for breath in a crimson-hued body of water off the coast of New York City opens the tense scene in the trailer. Then a robotic voice yells out "Malcolm," showing the lead scientist hugging his kids as a nuclear blast blankets the city. The teaser reveals this as Malcolm's terrifying dream, then moves to discuss the central conflict of the series—Skynet, the artificial intelligence driving the Terminator universe. Judgement Day comes to pass as a terrifying cyborg killer sent back in time kills Malcolm.
Taking advantage of present animation trends
Set to premiere on August 29th with eight episodes on Netflix, Terminator Zero follows the trend of big intellectual properties being animatedly produced. With their animated Castlevania adaptation, which suggests their conviction in the viability of animation as a media for action franchises with roots in other formats, Netflix has already shown success.
Terminator Zero, an adult animated series, is ready to ride the wave of popularity that adult animation series have lately. Although adult animation shows cover many genres, including the Prime Video series Invincible, which has only had two seasons thus far, Terminator Zero stands out with its existing live-action counterpart, so establishing a precedent for its reputation. Still, the look of Terminator Zero is probably going to be reminiscent of Invincible and other adult animated works.
A darker interpretation of the Terminator universe
Terminal Zero seems to be carrying on a special legacy started following the premiere of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Emphasizing mostly on shadows and subdued dark tones, the trailer hints at a unique visual style for the show. This stands in quite contrast to animated shows like Rick & Morty or Invincible. After many years, Terminator Zero offers a fresh look at the Terminator universe and a unique viewpoint on the growing subgenre of AI-themed science fiction.
