Supernatural Season 3: A Shorter Season

Fans will always remember their favorite moments. What's so unique about this show is that it’s been around for quite a long time, long enough that fans from 2005 remember it. However, Season 3, which aired back in 2007-2008 was oddly short compared to its typical 22 episode seasons!

Supernatural fans are very loyal and loved having more episodes every year!

For a while, having long seasons kept audiences coming back week after week for many months of shows!

One of the factors affecting how many episodes came out, was the major Writer's Guild of America (WGA) strike! It really hit Hollywood hard! It started back in November 2007 and ended in February 2008, affecting production timelines! That meant that Supernatural Season 3 only had 16 episodes compared to the usual number, leaving eight episodes behind, shortening their season quite dramatically!

Even with the drop in the number of episodes, what stands out about this beloved show and how much it had been changed by Streaming services was just how different viewers watched the shows now.

What's changed?

  • Today, shorter seasons make shows more binge-able, helping streaming platforms get viewers to finish and stay loyal, but it would never happen without great writing, of course.

It would not really be logical to make the show today like it was in 2005 because now the format changed.

The Future of Supernatural

Many wonder what’s possible if there’s going to be a Supernatural Season 16. While the previous format involved many weeks for viewers to watch each episode. Having 22 episodes might seem appealing for many, even longer seasons were pretty common back then!

It just might not be necessary now.

  • Streaming audiences prefer binging short seasons!
  • Shorter seasons mean less stress on actors and showrunners.

A Supernatural reboot should focus on today's viewer habits and shorter seasons might give Supernatural another amazing run!
