Star Trek: Discovery season five ended the show in an exciting and satisfying manner with additional adventures, callbacks to Star Trek's past, and poignant events, so launching Star Trek into a new golden age on Paramount+.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Final Season will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray Steelbook in a limited edition on August 27, Paramount Home Video has announced. Along with almost two hours of additional extra features, the Final Season collection will comprise all ten Star Trek: Discovery season five episodes. Will Star Trek: Discovery Season Six or a film event occur?
Season five is the last one Star Trek: Discovery runs. While Paramount+ is focusing on its next two Star Trek live-action series—Star Trek: Strange New Worlds's upcoming seasons three and four and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, a spinoff set in Star Trek: Discovery's 32nd century—star Trek: Discovery season six is not in the works. Because Paramount+ streamlines Star Trek material, season six of Star Trek: Discovery is not in the cards.
Though no official plans call for a Discovery reunion movie in the near future, it is not impossible to bring back Star Trek: Discovery's ensemble one day. The core of Star Trek is potential, hence a streaming movie of Star Trek: Discovery is not out of question. The first will be the forthcoming Star Trek streaming movie on Paramount+, Section 31; it is not impossible that the cast of Star Trek: Discovery would one day get back together for a movie. Although the ending of Star Trek: Discovery showed the USS Discovery's last mission in the 33rd century, viewers may eventually come across maybe more late 32nd-century adventures for Captain Michael Burnham.

Star Trek: Discovery season five, with its bold adventures, major character moments, and moving ending, was the most successful of the series.
Jonathan Frakes was "Very Surprised" that his TNG episode will form the basis of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5.
Based on a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Jonathan Frakes directed, Jonathan Frakes described his "surprised" response to the season five storyline. Eight episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, including season five (and the series') penultimate episode, "Lagrange Point," had Frakes directed. Since he joined as a director for season two, Jonathan has always considered Star Trek: Discovery his "home" Star Trek show on Paramount+; nonetheless, Frakes did not envision Discovery season five pulling its premise from one of his TNG episode.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Jonathan Frakes stated why he was "pretty surprised" that Star Trek: Discovery season five follows Star Trek: The Next Generation season six episode, "The Chase." Frakes also talked on how guiding the current Star Trek series varies from Star Trek in the 1990s era under Rick Berman. Here is his quotation:
I was really surprised since I don't remember "The Chase" being that significant in Next Gen's output. Michelle then explained how that would be the basis and starting point for the presentation. You know, "The Chase" came to me by accident. The cards worked out this way. On Next Gen, you are assigned episodes based on some random straw vote; on Discovery, and also, far more crucially, on Strange New Worlds, they assign you an episode they felt would be appropriate for you. It was thus only chance that "The Chase" turned out to be one I had meant.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Since he started directing season 2, Jonathan Frakes has directed eight Star Trek: Discovery episodes including season five (and the series') penultimate episode, "Lagrange Point." Though Star Trek: Discovery had multiple references to its predecessor, Frakes could not have predicted that his performance would be so important in the series' ending. Star Trek: Discovery has become popular among the spectators, who can't wait to see it on Blu-ray.
