There's a legitimate reason Star Trek and Doctor Who will be crossing over in two mobile games instead of Paramount+ or Disney+, even if fans could be let down. East Side Games makes both Star Trek: Lower Decks Mobile and Doctor Who: Lost in Time, hence the crossover will call for much less legal wrangle. East Side Games already have the rights to the characters and likenesses of performers like David Tennant and Alex Kingston, which makes a crossover far simpler. Comic books and mobile games, as optional works of extended media, lack the same degree of legal vetting and logistical thought that a Star Trek and Doctor Who crossover episode would have. This is also the reason IDW was able to release the comics run combining Matt Smith's Doctor and Star Trek: TNG's cast in 2012. Comic books and mobile games, as optional bits of extended media, lack the same degree of legal scrutiny as a Star Trek and Doctor Who crossover episode would have. Once the crossover is decided upon, creators—writers, painters, and game designers—free from worries about studio scheduling and actor availability may go on with their work bringing it to life. Two TV shows on either side of the Atlantic, produced by two separate Hollywood companies, raise even more logistical issues. Our best crossover till those practical obstacles are removed Star Trek: Lower Decks Mobile and Doctor Who: Lost in Time. When it launches on August 1, both games will offer a tantalizing look of how some of our most beloved Star Trek characters engage with the unusual new planets of the Doctor Who universe.
Starting August 1, fans will be treated to the same exciting narrative, experienced from two different points of view, when a mystery space-time ripple throws the Doctor onboard Star Trek: Lower Deck's U.S.S. Cerritos while Lieutenant Brad Boimler and Ensign Beckett Mariner find themselves pushed into the Doctor Who universe. The Doctor must cooperate with the clever Cerritos crew while Boimler and Mariner link up with the venerable River Song as the ripple disturbs the very fabric of reality. They rush against time to mend the ripple and right things.
San Diego Comic-con debuted the eagerly awaited Star Trek and Doctor Who crossover, but it most likely wasn't what fans were hoping for. The Star Trek X Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend gave the possibility of a crossover between the two cherished sci-fi series some impetus. While Alex Kurtzman stated Ncuti Gatwa was "quickly becoming" his favorite Doctor, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies declared his admiration for Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Star Trek: Discovery during the panel. Additionally questioned about a possible Star Trek and Doctor Who crossover were Alex Kurtzman and Russell T Davies. RTD answered by stating the crossover "must happen," but it would be up to the supporters to raise their voices. Though a Star Trek and Doctor Who TV crossover is a pipe-dream, the two properties will cross over in August. Beginning August 1, the two East Side apps, Star Trek: Lower Decks Mobile and Doctor Who: Lost in Time mobile apps will narrate one epic story from two angles.
