Apple TV Plus’s Severance is returning with season two bringing unique twists following its initial announcement back in 2022 and the production interruptions in 2023 due to WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes . Filming resumed January 29 2024 and wrapped approximately three months later as fans look forward to unraveling new mysteries surrounding the fictional Lumon Industries corporation in coming year.
Tramell Tillman plays Mr Milchick from the show Severance with his commentary suggesting many more unanswered questions in season 2 about Lumon and the various members of staff. Tillman mentioned to TV Insider the brand for the program highlights the deeper one digs more questions that arise showing how the show's approach intends on bringing unique aspects for viewers to solve. Tillman shared he thinks the upcoming new episodes for the show speaks largely about the complex nature of personal identities especially how individuals behave with each other while within the constructs of Lumon.
Tillman elaborated on Season 2 noting similarities in theme to Season 1 highlighting characters complex traits instead of the main focuses in season 1. Tillman suggests characters’ identities are becoming intermingled between their work personas plus their private ones showcasing a level of complexity of identity and their inner selves. The desire of the show also to portray “curiosity” continues in Season 2 from the premier episodes of season one of this Apple TV Plus production.
Severance was first launched on Apple TV Plus in February 18 2022 presenting a total of nine episodes that concluded that same year in April where Severance drew strong reviews and even attained fourteen Emmy nominations winning two demonstrating huge level of engagement with public viewing audiences. Apple TV released eight minutes of the first episode for Season 2 of Severance offering viewers a unique preview almost one month before the scheduled premiere set for January 17 2025. The show Severance picks up where Season one of show ended with Mark (played by Adam Scott) and his other coworkers exploring outside of Lumon. Irving visits his Lumon lover while Helly learns her outside identity is of someone from the company’s beginnings and Mark discovers that his deceased spouse was once an employee named Ms Casey also known to audiences as his boss Ms Cobel both being played by the same actress.
Season two begins with Mark’s Innie awakening inside the Lumon elevator and running through empty white Lumon halls where he encounters his workplace has changed. Upon returning to the Macro Data Refinement Department Mark realizes his old team has disappeared with three new team members along with a new manager named Miss Huang. Mr Milchick makes his entrance informing Mark that the previous MDR team were “the face of Severance Reform” and also mentions Cobel had an unhealthy relationship with both his inside and outside selves though the team did not agree to come back and rejoin workplace despite success.
The trailer for Severance Season 2 depicts the MDR team all back together discussing their discoveries outside their severed lives while focusing on rescuing the character of Outie’s ex-wife also Ms Casey. They plan on tackling challenges with more strength plus also better strategy due to these developments. Severance season 2 consists of 10 episodes on Apple TV and the shows schedule starts on Friday January 17th 2025 and ends with release on Friday March 21. The first eight minutes of premiere of this highly anticipated return was made available online just prior to the new year 2025 for general viewing.
The season two opener of Severance picks right up from "The We We Are" events from prior season while showcasing Adam Scott acting out Mark who traverses the many long corridors in Lumon confused and even panicked as he faces new changes at workplace. Milchick steps in where Cobel used to be offering explanation that team became global celebrities representing new severance processes. The eight minutes close with Mark asking about contact with prior work team which Mr Milchick dismisses showcasing dark tone within this specific scene and adding another puzzle piece into show.
The production of Severance confirms that the main cast returns featuring Britt Lower and John Turturro with Zach Cherry returning to their pivotal roles with Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette returning as well. Also new additions such as Gwendoline Christie Sarah Bock Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Alia Shawkat will make an appearances throughout new show episodes on Apple TV. Show Creator Dan Erickson notes Lumon Industries will find themselves being attacked by characters from within and that season two will be “even darker” than the previous season where the characters have a small victory that causes them to be under the pressure of their workplace system
