Seth Meyers is an American comedian writer producer and television host known for his political comedy and interviews on his talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers. He is also known for hosting Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live. This has brought much media attention as a respected figure.
Meyers hosts “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that has now become a platform used to engage with both culture and politics while having a humor aspect. Known to be critical of political figures in his show Meyers brings forth interesting opinions on today's pressing events.
Meyers uses a strong tone while critiquing right wing politicians particularly Donald Trump while highlighting various social issues as they come about during everyday news reporting. In his opening monologues Meyers critiques current events showing how he approaches his commentary.
Donald Trump responded negatively on his Truth Social account criticizing Meyers and his show while calling him "dumb and untalented.” He claimed that “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was giving donations to the Democrat Party. In addition that all late night shows were only political attacks against him and that he is often unfairly criticized.
After recent claims by Trump that were in relation to California fires Meyers used his platform to highlight inaccuracies regarding comments that were said about government action or that was taken. This specific reaction has been highlighted many times as Meyers pushes back on falsehoods.
Throughout Trump's time in the political scene he has consistently attacked late-night television. Calling all hosts talentless with an aggressive approach on social media. There have been rumors stating that Trump has tried to censor the late-night shows especially focusing his efforts on the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. Although that information is out it doesn’t seem that it is fact based but is a narrative that is part of an underlying message between differing ideologies.
Also to be noted was former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart. He also provided views on a recent topic of a California fire by using a monologue which pointed out how many conservative viewpoints are hypocritical when taking relief fund money. He called them out for their lack of logical stance for supporting specific communities when it fits into an overall narrative. Stewart makes it known how often disaster aid is offered only to those who support right wing platforms over others.
Stewart targeted Republicans by highlighting how many GOP members demand their help to not be tied to any certain beliefs for themselves but also put other areas through trials before being given assistance during emergency situations. These methods that are used come across very questionable in the light and do not always match with actions.
Meyers uses political commentary to provide not just a comedy angle but also a sense of perspective in understanding current events and issues from a differing view point.
