The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has taken audiences on a wild ride with season 2. While the show has its major focus on elves, humans and dwarves. This season really showed the emotional story of the Uruks.
Glug's Emotional Journey
One of the characters that made this happen was Glug, played by actor Robert Strange. Glug was an Uruk and served a key figure known as Adar (played by Sam Hazeldine) throughout the season, giving this character plenty of time on-screen.
Adar was under the illusion he was giving the Uruks a future and fighting against Sauron (played by Charlie Vickers). However, as he is obsessed with his goal of defeating Sauron. His desperation leads him to abandon his people! This is what truly sets the stage for Glug to fight back against Adar.
A Heartfelt Farewell
As the emotional story of Glug came to an end, Strange went on Twitter (@_RobertStrange_) to thank audiences. In his own heartfelt words, he shows how honored he felt to have a part in one of J.R.R. Tolkien's stories and how much fun he had, especially playing a role as an Uruk, something rarely done and even given attention to!
It appears Strange's message brings an understanding of his character and its unfortunate ending. It’s clear Glug didn't live to see season 3. It even goes as far as making clear Glug's alliance with Sauron to overthrow his leader, Adar. But, Sauron shows no loyalty! He shows how brutal the power of Sauron truly is! Leaving this pivotal role, killed at the hands of Sauron.
Glug's Impact
It's pretty rare to find an emotional storyline of The Rings of Power. Focusing mostly on a wider scope, it featured a different point of view.
Adar came to the screen in season 1 and many audiences who followed this series found him fascinating! Glug provided another emotional moment as well, because of the bond Adar has to the Uruks! For fans it might have appeared that the series may contradict the books that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote. This would be because the books portrayed Uruks as mindless, super violent and war-mongering beings! But what the producers wanted was to develop those characters into something meaningful! So the journey of Glug really gave people an amazing, memorable story. A chance for this character helped fill the gaps that even the original Lord of the Rings series failed to showcase, as we get a really meaningful insight into these Uruk personalities.
A New Perspective On Middle-earth
It’s great that Strange got this chance!
He shows that this story has plenty to offer for fans who followed this iconic series and for those of us who may be newer viewers! Strange had a significant moment that came across Twitter and helped to showcase the kind of message these creators want to get out. While we haven't had a glimpse of all the season 2 elements. This gave an unexpected view to the character Glug in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, that helped give even more detail into the whole Uruk situation, reminding us all just how powerful this Amazon Prime show really is.
