Redesign Inspired by MCU Fan Art, Cancelled Series Moon Knight's 70s

Moon Knight Receives a Retro Redesigning

Inspired by unproduced ideas for a classic show including the Fist of Khonshu, new MCU artwork gives Marc Spector's Moon Knight a throwback costume from the 1970s. Oscar Isaac brought Marc Spector to life for the first time ever in Marvel Studios' Moon Knight series in 2022, and he got a great, comic-accurate suit as the title superhero. Inspired by the character's Egyptian roots, Moon Knight's outfit and weapons in the MCU chronology reflected Spector's agreement to work for the Egyptian God of the Moon, Khonshu, therefore acquiring his powers.

Created by comic writer Doug Moench in 1975, Moon Knight originally appeared in Marvel Comics' Werewolf by Night #32. Inspired by Moon Knight's past designs in Marvel Comics, arifinity_ posts new Fan Art redesigning the MCU's Moon Knight outfit in his classic style.

How the canceled Moon Knight Series might have begun an earlier Marvel shared universe?

Author Doug Moench hinted in Marvel Comics' Marvel Preview #21 in 1980 that the success of the character overseas spurred a Japanese TV series based on Moon Knight. This was untrue, however a series of Japanese Moon Knights was under consideration. This was driven by the success of the first on-screen superhero in Japan, the Japanese figure Moonlight Mask, sometimes known as Moonbeam Man, who starred in a run of tokusatsu and anime productions from 1958 onward.

Along with the debut of a Japanese version of Moon Knight, the well-known agreement between Marvel and Toei Company, allowing projects based on a version of Marvel Comics' Spider-Man, was also scheduled to feature Moon Knight was meant to become a cult classic, same as Takuya Yamashiro's Spider-Man, who starred in several live-action films and television episodes in the 1970s. These ideas were abandoned in favor of a Moon Knight-oriented manga series, but three decades before the MCU they nearly produced a common superhero universe.

How The Cancelled Moon Knight Series Might Have Kick-started An Earlier Marvel Shared Universe?

Moon Knight wore a simpler, retro costume in his early years, which inspired fresh Fan Art created by arifinity_, which redesigns the MCU's Moon Knight suit in his classic form. Inspired by early Marvel Comics designs and unreleased ideas for a Japanese Moon Knight series in the 1970s, which might have built Marvel's first shared live-action superhero universe, this artwork reflects Moon Knight's early designs.

Still to meet in the MCU are Spider-Man and Moon Knight.

Sony's forthcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse presents an opportunity for the Japanese version of Spider-Man to resurface even if there hasn't been much debate on whether the Japanese Moon Knight will ever have an animated or live-action adaption. Though they haven't yet crossed paths in the MCU, Spider-Man and Moon Knight might so before the Multiverse Saga ends. Since they are now more grounded, street-level MCU heroes, they may run across each other in any number of upcoming projects, including Spider-Man 4, Daredevil: Born Again, or Avengers 5.
