Nicki Minaj faces a lawsuit from Brandon Garrett a former employee and day to day manager who accuses her of assault following her Pink Friday 2 World Tour concert in Detroit which took place in April of this year. Garrett's lawsuit which he filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday also includes claims of intentional infliction of emotional distress against the rapper following the 2024 Detroit incident.
The lawsuit states that after Nicki Minaj’s performance at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit the rapper became angry about employee disorganization. The issue arose when Nicki Minaj discovered another staff member collected her prescription when she originally gave task to Garrett according to the complaint. Garrett stated his unavailability at the time was due to him assisting the performer. Nicki Minaj according to Garrett verbally threatened his life after that incident.
Nicki Minaj yelled “Your life is over!” before allegedly open-hand slapping Garrett resulting in his hat falling off along with an additional hit to his wrist after his attempt to offer assistance the complaint states. Garrett claims the incident occurred after he explained why another employee collected Nicki's medicine instead. Garrett’s lawyer Tom Feher has claimed her fame should not condone this type of violence toward her employees claiming “Her celebrity status does not entitle her to such behavior.”. Nicki Minaj lawyer Judd Burstein however maintains the allegations to be false and "frivolous".
The Pink Friday 2 World Tour also nicknamed the Gag City World Tour by her fan base became the highest grossing tour by any female rapper. Nicki Minaj released “Pink Friday 2” which also hit number one on the Billboard 200. This accomplishment also marks her as the only female rapper to attain three number one albums on that Billboard chart which showcases her consistent impact on popular culture and musical styles within the genre .
Brandon Jovan Garrett described in his lawsuit that he worked as a day-to-day manger to Nicki Minaj when an incident at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit occurred on April 21 in the rapper's dressing room. Garrett was on his way back from buying the ice cream for the performer when Nicki Minaj’s security head summoned him. According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Minaj was upset by team performance when confronted about a prescription issue.
A team member asked Brandon Jovan Garrett why someone else was taking charge of Nicki's prescriptions where Garrett claimed that her requested task to gather medications was assigned to another while Garrett was busy with her performances needs according to the filing. This exchange with Garrett resulted in Nicki yelling at him using profanity stating he “messed up his life.” Brandon Jovan Garrett has claimed that Minaj did in fact physically strike him on the right side of the face his lawsuit claims. He claims the force swung his head causing his hat to fly off before striking his right wrist that caused him to drop documents in hand. After these physical strikes he says he was also forced out of the room.
Garrett claimed he locked himself in a bathroom out of fear after the event which then turned into him not being invited onto the tour bus between Detroit to Chicago. Brandon Jovan Garrett did make a Detroit police report . Detroit police have confirmed a report came from Garrett after the April 21 Little Caesars Arena event as claimed by Garrett. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has denied warrant request to pursue matter which was sent for further investigation by Detroit Police .
The lawsuit includes that Nicki Minaj acted abusing position and also acted with intent to distress Garrett or was knowingly indifferent towards probability he “would suffer severe emotional distress”. Prosecutors clarified initial reports suggesting incident occurred at 2:30 PM instead it actually occurred around 2:30 AM after the April 20th show.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office reported the warrant requested from Detroit Police has been denied because of "insufficient evidence to prove that a crime has been committed." The prosecutor’s office clarified its initial release that stated that incident occurred around 2:30pm which they have corrected as 2:30am. The incident at Little Caesars Arena reportedly occurred after her April 20 Detroit performance making these details of importance to legal case.
While legal team for Nicki Minaj publicly denies claims from the filing citing allegations as false and frivolous her attorney claims. Wayne County Prosecutor's Office still demands more inquiry despite no warrant which was requested from Detroit police. Brandon Jovan Garrett also filed the suit naming her company Pink Personality Inc as defendant in the case too. The case continues with multiple reports stating his fears when leaving the event . TMZ reported that the legal case alleges career threat plus an open hand hit against Garrett which was added to the lawsuit. TMZ released statement which included that Minaj got “aggressive” following an issue regarding personal prescription medications in Detroit where this concert event took place adding complexity to story that continues to evolve daily.
