"Pardon My Heart" Emerges From The Archives for a First Performance Since the 1970’s
Neil Young and Crazy Horse initially released “Pardon My Heart” as a track on their Zuma album released back in November 1975 but it was never performed since. The very first live performance occurred in New York at the Bottom Line on May 16 1974 after Neil Young performed surprise guest set following another artists Ry Cooder’s concert . During its debut appearance Young shared the personal details surrounding the love song saying it was learned recently and he had also wrote it before classifying it one of saddest songs he knew.
History of Performances for “Pardon My Heart” Including Details From CSNY Reunion Tour
Three months later the track “Pardon My Heart” had it’s only other appearance on August 15 1974 when Crosby Stills Nash and Young’s reunion tour was playing in New York during a concert at Nassau Coliseum. These represent the only ever live presentations of the now rediscovered music by fans before the recent digital drop of new content . Neil Young originally penned the sad song due to the breakdown in his relationship with Carrie Snodgress. Many of Young’s Homegrown album pieces were inspired by Carrie Snodgress yet were not released till 2020 despite being made between the time period of 1974 and 1975 showing how closely they connect to this relationship.
Upcoming Album and Tours Announced alongside Recent "Fireside Sessions"

These latest additions were shared onto his Neil Young Archives website for global fan viewing.
The "Pardon My Heart" recording came about in studio from Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch on June 16 1974 with several different recording artists all helping create a one of a kind musical output. These sessions at Neil Young's home studio in Broken Arrow Ranch included Tim Drummond on bass the Crazy Horse rhythm section featuring Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot with each person playing their specific instrument and singing backing vocals showing some of the magic from the original recording that lead to recent showing during his “Fireside Sessions.” “Pardon My Heart” shares the same recording day as the tracks “Homefires” “Love Is a Rose” “Hawaiian Sunrise” plus “L.A. Boys and Ocean Girls”. Neil Young was experiencing an intense emotional collapse from heartbreak over his dissolving relationship with Carrie Snodgress during that studio period from 1974 showing all the raw and emotive responses during musical creation.
“Pardon My Heart” Was Originally Shelved Then Included In Zuma Album Decades Later
Neil Young initially did not make this music readily available as "Pardon My Heart" remained vaulted for over a year even after recording took place. Neil Young stated he felt he did not have the ability to vividly share his relationships as easily as other artists do while adding he felt the song and similar works were too revealing for his comfort level during a Rolling Stone interview with Cameron Crowe in August 1974 which explains the hesitancy to share the personal narrative of that creative period. Homegrown by Neil Young contains songs including “Pardon My Heart” “Home Fires” plus “Love Art Blues” however these are just a few of his “Homegrown” material which was never officially released at that period. Neil Young had shared his feelings about his Homegrown album saying the music is on “the sad side of a love affair” showing he had emotional attachments to all of the pieces from his original sessions.
