Mae's struggle with Master Indara exposes that, although not formally taught by the Jedi, Mae is a fierce opponent and (as Indara notes) was obviously trained by someone. Mae not only held her own—and finally even won—in a fight against a fully-trained and very strong Jedi Master, but she also proved rather adept with the Force. Mae's success in part resulted from her lack of concentration on pure force.
Mae instead deftly exploited Indara's Jedi shortcomings. Mae specifically exploited knowledge that the Jedi are meant to defend the innocent by diverting Indara's attention toward the potential of an innocent bystander being slain. Mae could only throw a knife straight into Indara's chest, murdering her, once Indara was concentrating on saving this person.
The amazing battle scene between Mae and Jedi Master Indara from the opening scene of the Star Wars program is dissected in a recent interview clip for the series. The Acolyte debuted on June 4th in two episodes and immediately it is clear that the drama will rely much on exquisitely orchestrated action scenes. Reflecting a change in Star Wars movies and TV series, The Acolyte is really focusing twice on the martial arts genre Force-Fu. The Acolyte trailers showed the conflict between Mae and Master Indara, which used this fighting technique.
Clearly, great consideration went into Mae's struggle against Master Indara. Posted on Star Wars' official X account, the interview footage shows The Acolyte Assistant Fight Coordinator Lu Junchang and Action Designer and Second Unit Director Christopher Clark Cowan's observations on the choices used for the intense scenario. Clearly, far more was going on under the surface of Mae and Indara's struggle, and it portends events to come on the show.
For Mae's narrative, this is a particularly fascinating and complex turn. The Acolyte has not yet disclosed exactly what happened between Mae and the Jedi stationed on her home planet, but it is clear that something happened to cause Mae not only mistrust but also hate of the Jedi. Furthermore, since Master Torbin, one of the Jedi, was guilty enough to be ready to swallow poison, it seems the Jedi did indeed do something to Mae either unintentionally or otherwise.
But Mae realized at that instant Master Indara would be more concerned in saving the other person. Mae is aware of and takes advantage of the Jedi's clearly still somewhat idealistic behavior. It will be rather fascinating to see what the next episodes expose on Mae's past with the Jedi. Still, it's amazing to discover more about this lovely action sequence between Mae and Master Indara in the first scene of Star Wars: The Acolyte in the meanwhile.
Great physical and cerebral ability abound in Jedi Master Indara. Her involvement to date has not been much known. She is among the Jedi dispatched to Mae's home planet. This implies then that she will be more involved in the forthcoming episodes. Her interactions with Mae probably mark only the start of her tale in The Acolyte.
The premiere of The Acolyte has exposed that it would look at the evolution of the Jedi Order, the history of the Force, and the interaction between light and dark. About this era in the Star Wars universe, many questions remain. Over the series, viewers should have greater knowledge about the Force, the Jedi Order, and the Sith.
Star Wars: The Acolyte's two-episode launch marks the last confirmation of what the show's title suggests for the newest Sith. Set in the Star Wars world toward the conclusion of the High Republic Era, the Acolyte is a television series featuring both the Galactic Empire and the Jedi during their most influential period. Investigating various crimes, this sci-fi thriller sees a former Padawan reunite with her former Jedi Master as they uncover events all pointing to darkness bursting from beneath the surface and ready to bring about the death of the High Republic.
Former Padawan of Jedi Master Sol Mae finds herself enmeshed in a dark secret that unexpectedly centers her in the middle of war. She is being hunted by the Sith, hence the first two episodes of The Acolyte have shown that the Sith have long-standing shadow presence. The disclosure of how the Sith have been able to foster the dark side of the Force for so long marks one of the most fascinating changes of the program. Learning how this happened would thrill fans.
Disney+ carries the first two episodes of The Acolyte for streaming.
