Best Han Solo-Esque Figure from Rogue Is Doctor Who
Doctor Who features a lot of gun-toting, interplanetary wanderers traversing time and space that would readily fit Han Solo. From Alex Kingston's Professor River Song, who combines Han's rapid reaction times with a blaster with the archeological mind of Ford's other prominent role, Indiana Jones, to the former Time Agent-turned-crafty conman Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), whom the Time Lord inspires to stand up for what's right no matter what. But key aspects of the character's mentality and background help to clearly draw comparisons between Rogue and Han.
Aiming to make a quick buck no matter what the cost may be in their starships that have seen better days, Doctor Who's recently debuted Rogue takes on dubious odd jobs across the universe like Han. Deep down every character, though, has a softer side and occasionally acts to maintain appearances—from Rogue's Dungeons & Dragons inspired-persona to Han's slightly approximated record-setting Kessel Run completion. Comparisons to Han and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) can also be made even from Rogue's relationship with the Doctor since two people from separate worlds find love against great challenges.
Doctor Who Season 14: Jonathan Groff contrasts the Rogue to 1 Star Wars character in Episode 6 with
Jonathan Groff shares which cherished Star Wars character motivated his technique of creating the mentality and character of his cosmic bounty hunter Rogue. Rogue is dispatched to 19th-century England in search of a shape-shifting Chuldur that would send Earth into anarchy, only to run upon Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday. Though at first things go badly, the Time Lord and bounty hunter team together and finally fall in love.
Groff considered the effort he put to bring Rogue to life during the most recent Doctor Who episode as season 14 gets ready for its season finale. Groff drew on Star Wars' own Corellian smuggler Han Solo to bring the improbable ally and love interest to life when looking for ideas for how he should approach playing a space-faring gun-for-hire with a little-nonsense attitude and attractive side. A Classic Show: Doctor Who
Originally first shown in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi show featuring the Doctor—a strong being known as a Time Lord. Traveling time and space with different companions, the Doctor uses an interdimensional time-traveling ship called the TARDIS to solve several issues and assist prevent catastrophe as much as he nearly causes. Though the Doctor is always the same character, they undergo regenerations which enables them to be recast every few seasons as a different immortal entity with fresh personality features.
Remarkably long and popular, the show is still a revered classic. Among all the science fiction programs, this one runs among the longest. Generations of viewers appreciate the show's characters, tales, and special effects.
Jonathan Groff: Reflecting on His Rogue Role
Rogue is hence an alien bounty hunter. I so have been considering Han Solo from Star Wars a lot. We find ourselves here partnering to demolish a shared ally and meeting this planet. And in the process of that, open to one other, become somewhat vulnerable, and have a connection at the same time we're having an adventure.
Groff's ideas on his part help to clarify his artistic approach to acting and performance. Drawing on such a well-known character like Han Solo would help him to produce a more interesting part that enhances the legacy of the show. His views also point out the kind of interaction the Doctor and Rogue will create.
An Interesting Addition
Groff clearly succeeded in developing a fresh, intriguing character for the Doctor Who mythos regardless of how many little ways each character might be compared to one another. Though Groff's inspirations are the perfect fit for Rogue, who is looking to be among the most revered arrivals for season 14 despite his sole appearance thus far. Although his future is yet unknown, hopefully the character will be reunited with the most recent Doctor's incarnation.
Doctor Who airs fresh episodes on Disney+ for viewers worldwide and BBC iPlayer for those in the UK every Friday concurrently.
