Jon Cryer is known for his acting roles, but his recent opinions and views about social issues have also grabbed much public attention. Cryer's political views have made many audiences take note as the commentary has shown to be strong and thought provoking.
In a recent interview with Bill Maher he gave controversial comments on several points. One was that Kamala Harris lost due to the hatred of black and trans women, but the argument was centered around immigration as well which had lead to backlash from viewers across a variety of platforms.
Cryer discussed on the podcast how the "woke" ideologies have contributed to the decline of Democratic influence. In addition Cryer has strong opinions which show his strong leaning on the progressive and left wing sides. These types of views created an environment of discussion but also of scrutiny among varying viewpoints.
Cryer's time spent with Maher on the podcast went quickly off the rails. Both personalities took strong positions where one was conservative (Maher) and the other was more liberal (Cryer). Many of the talking points discussed were around immigration, social and trans policies.
Cryer denied being overly "woke" which is what Bill had stated. Cryer went on to make claim that many are bigoted with hate which in turn led the election for President Trump, creating high tension for this conversation that was seen by many across several forms of media.
Cryer stated many points were brought up about anti immigrant ideas which included an increase of crime, reduced wages and overall a bias toward the subject with those on the right as it seems to be their key strategy for policy making.
Cryer likened transgenderism to being left-handed highlighting it has existed for years but it's only recently started getting recognition and societal acceptance. Cryer mentioned that a lot of money was spent “demonizing” trans people which he says it is “disgusting”.
He disagreed with views that trans ideology forces others to do harm stating it to be a form of demonization. His comments suggest a need for understanding instead of judgment or hate in these matters and it was important for that message to get to the forefront of discussion.
There were several viewpoints given throughout different public settings in regards to this particular episode with opinions from both sides. Both Cryer's and Maher's views created a moment for viewers to weigh their perspectives. Those comments were mostly shown online.
Some that supported a more right winged idea took to the internet to insult Cryer with their comments and claimed him “an idiot”. This demonstrated strong negative emotions to Cryer’s opinions. Others, however stated support which also made a unique balance across the opinions of the overall topic.
Cryer played the memorable Alan Harper on "Two and a Half Men" which he was awarded with an Emmy. He has also been known for playing Lex Luthor on the CW's "Supergirl". He has had many memorable roles in television during his career, with those characters not always showing the political side.
